Windsocks

Following on from that wind thread I bumped, Don't you think working windsocks on the runway would both be handy & make them a bit more immersive - especially if they bobbed about relative to how turbulent it is in the air.

That would be very nice to have, so you know what direction and how strong it is blowing before taking off/landing.

Windsocks would definitely be cool, but its ATC that determines the runway you take off from. Let's make ATC a lot more intelligent in this sim first, then add windsocks. ;)

True, but you're not allowed that latitude IRL. Improved ATC would solve quite a few problems though, as would correcting how the ILS works. Windsocks would help though just so you know exactly how your aircraft will behave when it leaves the ground. ATIS would also be a cool addition...it would make the baro setting on your altimeter actually have a purpose. :D

One thing that might be doable would be to inculde wind info just prior the "cleard for take-off/landing" call from tower, as they do in real life. Something like: "Springflield 1-1, Wind 160°, 5kts, you are cleared for take-off".

That would be the first good reason to actualy request take-off clearence form the tower guy in LOMAC, to get the wind info.

a sock would definately be kewl. imagine flying past and a sock is blowing in the air depending on wind speed. :D
