I think so I'l pass the nevada dlc and all further ...

You can always have both steam and stand alone versions if you really want pre order deals. As purchases on steam can transfer to stand alone. OR you can convert to stand alone at any time. Also It's not extra for anything on steam you just pay full price on steam or wait till they do a sale.

So you say that the people who bought your modules on steam are getting extra charged for the two campaigns and the nevada dlc because of reasons?

This would be a large disadvantage for all the steam users. Since the buyer have to decide to use either the steam or the non-steam version of your modules (which was for the last modules) this is a big drawback for the people who bought all of your modules on steam. So you say to them that, in spite of that they have bought all your modules for the same price as on your shop they now have to extra for the nevada map and the campaigns because they can't either use the dcs world 2.0 with lesser modules from your site (so they can't use software they have paid for) or using the older version with extra costs and all of their modules?

I guess it is because steam takes something like 30% of the sale price for games. I just wish ED offered a way to transfer my steam purchases back to their store. when I first got the game I did not realize the difference and now it is starting to have an effect.

You can move your Steam keys to the stand-alone from the ED Website.

If they use the Open Beta, and move their keys from Steam to that, I believe it will remove access to Steam for those modules. So basically it would be like abandoning Steam and moving to the Stand-alone.

Technically, you can run Steam, Standalone, Open Beta all at the same time, the keys and hardware IDs should all be in the registry, might have to put in key, and it might burn an activation. Not sure as I havent done it in a while.

I thought once you moved the key to the stand-alone (or Open Beta) That was it for Steam, you couldnt use it there anymore.

The key is stored on your steam profile, I can choose to re install A10C 1.1.x and DCSW and the items I bought from steam are still listed, after it downloads on first boot it runs the starforce prompt in background / auto mode.If the key and hardware id in the registry is valid no activation is needed.

I ran Steam and Standalone A-10C side by side for a while, same with DCSW, and it never asked for a activation as it was already in my registry.

Even now with A10C 1.1 and DCSW uninstalled from steam, I can see purchased steam DLC and Keys for that product.

The issue is steam may store the Starforce key and hardware id in the steam root of the registry and not the eagle dynamics, so you would prolly burn another activation.

Dear all,

We realize that there is some confusion on how the DCS: NEVADA Test and Training Range map will be released on Steam. We have every intention of making this module/DLC available on Steam once it is first released as an Open Alpha on the DCS E-shop (late November 2015). However, we cannot offer it as an Early Access DLC on Steam. When it does release on Steam though (a bit after being first released on the DCS E-shop), it will match the price on the DCS e-shop at $49.99 USD and not include the bonus Red Flag campaigns. However, the Red Flag campaigns will be available on Steam as separate DLC.

Release of the NEVADA map on Steam will also be in parallel with the availability of DCS World 2.0 on Steam. However, DCS World 2.0 does NOT include the NEVADA map. DCS World 2.0 will be a free update to your DCS World installation on Steam and will not require any re-purchases of your DCS World DLC.

On a related matter, as a policy we no longer offer any of our products on Steam in Early Access form.

Thanks

Thanks for the clarification.

DCS World on Steam doesn't really make sense anymore as an option. When it was just the case of a holding back a release for a couple of weeks there then it sort of still made sense if people didn't mind the wait, but to offer combined skus (map + campaign) for less money than a single map sort of blows that idea out of the water.

How could anyone knowingly promote DCS World on Steam when (a) it is more expensive for less things and (b) will always be released later?

I'd personally feel disingenuous recommending it there, knowing that people get a better deal at the ED shop direct.

Shouldn't we just direct all the Steam users to buy at the ED shop instead?

why cant they just make steam release at the same time as the non Steam version, or shorten the wait time, if its not possible to have matching releases.

pretty much any other game developers have steam release dates coincide with retail releases in stores/ other digital download.

its a real shame because i perfer the steam version due to ease of updates, and such, and having them in library with other games.

In the end it is two different stores, selling the same toys.

One shop, a specialist shop, has the latest toys as early as possible and decides to do a promotion with some goodies, the other one is a big department store putting it on the shelves as any huge shop does...

So for lazy people who prefer one stop shopping and the convenience Steam should be ok.

For the ones that crave the goodies, and don't want to miss the promo stuff, they need to "drive" downtown to the specialist shop, which is ED.

So yes, I would always promote the ED store over Steam, as it not only is the best bang for the bucks, but also helps finance development of future products without losing a percentage to valve.

People are old enough to choose, they just need all the information to make an informed decision.

Shagrat

Moved to standalone so I can participate in the open beta for 1.5, but I can't figure out how to activate my modules (purchased on steam) in the stand alone?

I have located the CD keys on steam for each module (as per the first post), but can't find where to activate these keys in the standalone?

EDIT: nvm I figured it out by fiddling around with my account :P

Have you already created a profile for multiplayer?

If yes, login here, or register an account:

https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/personal/

Enter your serial numbers from steam in the "License check" field on the left side, and bind the key to your account.

When you login to the module manager ingame, your modules should be there ready to install

Login to www.digitalcombatsimulator.com

Go to profile and do for all the steam modules the license check.

Now the serials are bound to your account.

Start DCS if not automatic update then go to module manager. Download and play. :pilotfly:

Roger, figured it out by myself abit on accident :)

Thanks anyway though guys, esp. for the fast replies (you even wrote 2 min before I could update that I had figured it out myself :P )

PS: I recommend writing this on the first page as people who bought the game via steam and haven't ever used the standalone launcher won't know this :)

Incorrect. You can easily maintain a 'bastardized' version of DCS with both Steam modules and Store modules running side-by-side. It takes about 15 minutes of prepwork, and from there, Steam -will- handle updating store modules. Updates that are shipped to DCS through Steam contain the necessary files for updating all aircraft, regardless of ownership. EDIT: To clarify, Steam doesn't 'update' each aircraft, but updates the game and all aircraft together, so it will cover store modules.

If you wish to try and maintain a version as I've described- one where store and steam modules are side-by-side, PM me and I can assist and provide support. I even wrote a tutorial on how to set it up, it just gets drowned out by those whom don't know any better.

So for lazy people who prefer one stop shopping and the convenience Steam should be ok.

I don't know if this has been covered (I didn't see it anywhere) but should I de-activate (the starforce DRM) first or does it not use one of your activations because you're reinstalling on the same PC?

As long as you don't do anything to remove the ED entries from your registry, then removing and reinstalling, from either Steam or ED's installation will not use another activation.
