[OPEN]Serious problem with RAM

bkthunder

Recommended Posts

I have 8Gb, I understand nowadays that's not exceptional but still, since 1.2.5 and now especially 1.2.6 I am unable to play because DCS is eating up all 8Gb of ram until it crashes.

Did the minimum requirements change so dramatically that one needs to buy an extra 8 gigs just to be able to play at the same settings that were fine pre 1.2.5?

in multiplayer mostly, but I do get warnings that the PC is running low on memory even in single player. Never had this issue before 1.2.5/1.2.6, but now it's degraded A LOT with this latest patch. DCS uses 6 gigs of ram when I check in the resource monitor. I know others have reported this as a memory leak. This sim is in a constant Alpha state :(

You may want to run the system monitor as described in the post below:

http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1838932&postcount=44

If you can post it with your crashes you might be able to help them nail the issue down.

I fly with a guy who was complaining of the same issue- virtual memory shortage or something like that and he has like 16 gigs of ram. It seemed REALLY odd but it wasn't consistent. I'll see if your notes match up.

what module were you using when it happened?

Ok, here's a screenshot of what happens, with related memory usage. This happened on a server with just 1 other guy flying an A-10 in a totally different airport. I managed to load the P-51 cockpit (takes a while now) and then the message. Shortly after it crashes.

Also, while I was taking this screenshot, the memory usage by DCS.exe was constantly rising from even though I was on desktop and going back ingame would give me a black screen.

I tested my PC with several other games and none of them gave me this problem, including FSX, X-plane 9, Risde of flight, Hitman absolution, GTA IV, BF3, Arma 3 (all maxed out or nearly maxed out).

P.S. I can't run sithspawn's method 'cause i am missing the 'process' counter in my performance monitor (but please let's keep this thread on topic, I'll solve my windows problems elsewhere).

I'm doing more tests, and I get continuous crashes. By comparison, I flew a test mission in the old black shark 2, and no problems.

think it's time to shelve DCS once again :(

Werid enough, it didn't generate any crash log for today's crashes... anyways here's two from yesterday.

More info: the memory usage seems to ALWAYS start at 5.10Gb, either SP or MP, with lots of units or just one aircraft, the size is always the same. THEN is starts to grow until it fills up, and it doesn't clear even if I exit the mission and go back to the UI, the ram remains fully occupied and / or keeps growing further. This doesn't happen with BS2 which uses about 4Gb and then clears after itself when exiting the mission.

So just to confirm is this just P51 causing the memory leak? I see that "old" BS2 is okay- you mean standalone 1111?

I also haven't seen any corrective actions that you've made so far-

Have you tried a repair?

Have you tried a reinstall?

Where did you get your 1.2.6 download / update from?

That's odd. I had the same problem you're having but with 4 Gbs. The other day I upgraded to 8GB and it now works.

It happens with any module, that is: A-10, Ka-50, UH-1 and P-51.

Yes, I meant 1.1.1.1

No, I haven't tried a repair or a reinstall, my spare time unfortunately is quite limited and it's already gone wasted with the aforementioned problems. Maybe I'll give it a try next week, although my gut feeling tells me it's an issue with the current patch (I'm not the only one experiencing this).

was about to say,

With Swap file on, I RARELY use over 4GB in SP Missions...

With Swap File off, it will continue to rise until the point that windows terminates the process for access_violation.

Sorry if you already said this and I missed it, what OS are you running?
