Increase unit spot distance?

Serp Supreme

Recommended Posts

Hello, pilots

As I state in the thread title, how can I go about increasing the distance at which units appear?

Recently I've been working on the base Su-25, not the 25T, and with this one spotting is done all by eyesight, as you know. I can't do this very well if I can't see the enemy until 3 seconds before a safe engagement point.

Thanks in advance

Also, nav and anticollision lights need to be waaay more noticeable. In the game, all you get is a single pixel on the screen. Easy to miss. In real life, you can see those lights from 100 miles away if it's a clear night. It would be nice if something was done to make those lights easier to spot. Just a thought

In FC1 days I used to be able to spot ground targets as distinct black dots at 18km or so. This is obviously a thing of the past, probably for realism reasons. Not sure when this change was made, I completely missed the FC2 era so it could have happened then. Occasionally I get lucky and spot stuff at about 6-8km nowadays.

You do realize this is a "War Time" Simulator and those lights you want to spot

from 100miles can be seen by your enemy too?

Just to give you a better feel for what you are doing, read Keith Rosenkranzs' Vipers in the storm. I think you will find it quite enlightening as to our genre of passion.

Yeah I'm aware of that, but that can apply to muzzle flashes and ground explosions and stuff like that. Merely trying to illustrate that the lighting effects need work, and that lights at night should be much more noticeable than they are.

There is nothing wrong with using the Binoculars in game, Pilots use them in the jets during all wars.

Binocular Laser M-L

Binocular IR W-Z

Binocular View W-B

W left windows key

L Left Alt Key

I haven't used them in a long time, they did bring those over to the latest ver. of A10 Warthog I hope.

There is also an enhanced Terrain download available in the user files section of downloads page.

Wait, so can someone please answer my original question? Being, is there any way to increase the distance that units are seen at?

You can make a custom label file consisting of a single black dot, set the range you want it to be visible, and turn on labels.

DCS World\Config\View\Labels.lua

Okay

I'm looking at this file

All I can think of is

"What"

Could you please explain how to do this?

See here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1736075&postcount=10

And download this mod: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/270020/

I've been using it for along time. I like it, though I may have tweaked it a bit more myself, i can't remember.

Milli

That's a good mod, but there is no way to enforce its use in multiplayer. I have to agree with others that it is extremely difficult to spot contacts at only moderate or even short ranges without adopting a telescope field of view.
