TimeKilla Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 No, we haven't abandoned MP. We work very hard to get the bugs out of this very important part of DCS World. Enough said! :smilewink: :joystick: YouTube :pilotfly: TimeKilla on Flight Sims over at YouTube.

Lange_666 Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 With a product as complex as DCS its not easy trying to reproduce a crash and when we do its not straight forward for the Devs to isolate the problem from the crash file itself (but please keep posting them up, sometimes it may be). When we test multiplayer we have a Dev running a debug version which literally brings the PC to its knees recording and logging just about everything. Rest assured we are working on it & hopefully this will be sorted soon. Its just as frustrating for me! Just one thing that bugs me... Question: Why on earth was 1.2.6. then released in the current state if you already knew it was a screw up? Answer (perhaps): To quickly quickly release an Mi-8 in pre-beta state? Result: Just read the topics concerning 1.2.6. Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!
GGTharos Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Actually the 1.2.6 release was a beta release, at least AFAIK. There does need to be a better way to deal with this - ie. having a separate beta channel so those who wish to participate in testing the bleeding edge DCS versions can do so without disturbing their standard install, but it takes time to set such things up - hopefully it is something that will be done some time in the future. ED Team NineLine Posted September 26, 2013 ED Team Posted September 26, 2013 Open Beta was postponed until they get the options in place to switch between beta and release. Feuerfalke Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 The way I see it, there are a lot of things going on with ED and DCS. EDGE, new functionality, new eyecandy and last not least 3rd-Party-cooperation. So, while I agree with the OP and knowing it does not sound very satisfying at the moment, I guess we just have to wait a little longer for the big changes. ED Team NineLine Posted September 26, 2013 ED Team Posted September 26, 2013 That's ok, it was nice to correct you once... Sith 1 - GG 582 Whoohoo :) Dang it. I missed that. :( I believe the reasons (IMHO) for instabilities that we see right now are because of some of the big things coming down the pipeline, they are laying the groundwork for all of it, and as such we are seeing growing pains.. doesnt make it any easier when you are having troubles, but it is what it is... 104th_Crunch Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 I am sure we will get there. Need stability and a nice FA-18. Then I will come back in full force. Right now, I am xboxing lol.
Emmer Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 8.5 years here, and counting :D Lost the count ; but i quit virtual flying. Maybe in the future i'll pick it up again. [sIGPIC]http://www.fulltimepilots.nl/Sigs/LLTM2014.jpg[/sIGPIC] http://www.fulltimepilots.nl
PondLife Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Firstly, I'm glad to see ED are paying attention and are working on the instability issues. I also don't doubt the dedication of the ED testers. Any application will have bugs and DCS is no exception, the problem here I believe is the general bad quality and stability of this last release, having looked at the debug logs on the client and some servers, I find it hard to believe any kind of thorough "white box" testing was done on this release. Regardless of whether this release was a "beta" or not, it was still shipped to customers, that makes it a release which should have been fully regression tested. Beta testing is only intended to capture edge case scenarios encountered by some customers, it is not intended to uncover basic instability issues which have the potential to drive customers away permanently, that wouldn't make any business sense would it??? I'm usually on the receiving end of these kinds of complaints, and believe me I do know something about software QA. ED please fix this quickly but do a thorough test before you release the patch. And next time perhaps do a more thorough regression test.
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted September 26, 2013 ED Team Posted September 26, 2013 (edited) I have high hopes for Edge or true multicore support. At the moment my medium end ATI GPU is struggling but only in multiplayer and no where near 100% load. I just hope we do not have to wait much longer. sorcer3r Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Im one of the people suffering major problems atm where before version 1.2.5 was as stable as a rock ... Also with 1.2.5 we had almost about 1 server crash per day. ED, please just fix 1.2.6 this time before the release of 1.2.7 (beta). :) [sIGPIC]http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b582/sorcerer17/sorcf16-b_zpsycmnwuay.gif[/sIGPIC]
Hamblue Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Well DCS World is just that. DCS World+Module+ update to the World. now DCS World get its models updated. The model and FM, DM get's updated. The person sitting on the other end who doesn't have the module doesn't need any more than that. That's why they separated all the models in the engine in the first place, unless they are lying and haven't finished it? and matter of fact, I'm going to go as far as to say it's Poor Russian coding. :joystick: That's how it's sold. You get world but to have the cockpits and controls you have to buy and download the module. I believe each plane is in world. That's how you can see them when playing. Proof in the pudding is download world only and hit f2 to view players in multi-player. It doesn't have to be done that way but I believe it is. kk0425 Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Heh, this version reminds me of how bad Windows ME was. Hopefully future versions will be more stable. I'm thinking the same as sith in that ED is simply building up DCS to be something great but this is all new territory for everybody.
comwarrior Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 Back in the good old days of quake 2, if a client connects to a server and doesn't have the map and/or textures then they got downloaded off the server. If models were installed on the server and people were using them then they would also get downloaded from the server... However, if a client is using a custom skin/model and the server doesn't have it then everyone else just sees the standard default model / skin... Now, the basic principle that ED are using is sound. The planes/heli's/vheicles and their weapons etc are all in DCS world. The AI is also equip to drive/fly them. It makes DCS world a common platform. So, IMO it's not that they have the wrong idea, it's more a case of they have lots of bugs and probably spending way too much time creating addon's and making it look pretty than actually fixing the bugs in the base package (DCS WORLD).
