Last Campaign Mission

Can't find an answer in search so here's my question:

 

How to complete the last Campaign Challenge?

 

I've even tried unlimited ammo, and Immortal and allowing the Ai P51 to take me as it's target, but it takes only a few shots at me and then zooms by like I'm standing still (I'm going full out at 300). He then shoots down the target I'm suppose to escort.

 

I've thought of jettisoning bombs to make myself lighter, but then couldn't sink the ship even if I somehow was able to get rid of the two enemy fighters.

You should not have bombs when on escort mission. lose some fuel, get high and close to the transport and when you spot their tracers, order wingman to engage and pick the one off him first. Then switch to the other one. the engagement time should be enough to allow the transport to escape and land. Then you RTB, rearm/repair, and get a loadfull of rockets and bombs. You can forget about your wingman at this point.

 

The funny thing is that another transport belonging to the enemy lands at novo near the ship and you're supposed to destroy it as well, but not mentioned on briefing.

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

WOW! Thanks, I just realized how little I know about this game. I wasn't aware of the rearm feature, and I need to get acquainted with the mission editor to adjust my load out, plus I never realized I could order my wing man to follow order.

I'm in pretty much the same boat, although I'm still on the next to last mission. How can I order my wingman to engage specific targets? The "Comm communication menu" button does nothing at all. Using the "easy comm" options, if I tell him to engage ground targets he says no. If I tell him to engage air defenses he says unable. If I tell him to cover me, he says he'll engage targets of opportunity, and hits one AAA emplacement. :huh:

 

If I want to rearm, how can I tell where it's possible? On the previous convoy attack mission, I thought it would be really great to have gun ammo, so I landed at the nearby airstrip, but nobody there was interested in rearming the plane. The map displays airfields scattered around... which are friendly; which are enemy?

Okay, a little bit of experimentation reveals that you learn an airfield's allegiance by clicking on it. So to build up a picture of what's friendly, enemy or neutral, you have to click multiple map icons while your airplane wanders around the sky unpiloted. It's tempting to editorialize about this GUI choice... but I won't. For now.

 

That still leaves the question: which airfields can I rearm at? Friendly only, or will neutral work?
