britgliderpilot
Looks from the article that it was made by a 3rd party, and although it's available commercially, at the time of writing the article it is ONLY a private project. I don't think it's an in-house ED project, and IIRC ED turned down Strikemax's Su27 model because they wanted to do their own 3D model. Admittedly, this model is much more complex than Strikemax's model, and it includes a 3D cockpit model . . . . . if they chose to buy it in, I wouldn't be disappointed. However, I don't think that's going to happen. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v121/britgliderpilot/BS2Britgliderpilot-1.jpg
Caretaker
If it really has 260.000+ polygons as we were discussing here http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?t=13361 , then forget it - even if you subtract the missiles, that amount is simply too much (five times the Su-25T!) for our poor systems :( Caretaker ED Beta Test Team
wasserfall
This is what i'm waiting for, fantastic Don't know how much polygons the current SU27/33 has, but 260.000 divided by 5 would't that be nice? Konovalov
Yeah, saw this on Lockonfiles last night and was very impressed. :icon_supe But what's the bottom line regarding a much improved 3d model of the Su27 being in-game for flyable and AI alike? The bottom line is that some day, they want to have a new model :) Otherwise, there's nothing confirmed nor definite with it at all. SuperKungFu
man i really wish ED would comment on this. Does the devs even visit the english forum? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
MBot
What should ED comment on this ? That's just someone on the net building a nice 3d model just like hundreds of people do. Why do people believe that this has something to do with ED ?

SuperKungFu
Because ED have pointed to this guy's work before. IIRC, i think Ed took his Ka-50 and lowered to poly count in order to better adapt to Lock On. Fighter Ops is doing the same thing from the models on this site (i think) http://www.meshfactory.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=21_22_24 In other news, I'm still wondering what happen to some of these projects. http://fox3.idv.tw/snitz_forums3405/post.asp?method=ReplyQuote&REPLY_ID=70979&TOPIC_ID=7865&FORUM_ID=44 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
SuperKungFu
or pay 80 buxs to buy this flanker model http://www.meshfactory.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21_22_24&products_id=435 http://www.meshfactory.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21_22_24&products_id=436 add a couple LOD, damage model and make a lot of people happy lol. Of course i think that site said it cannot be used in games and something about copyright whatever...and bla bla bla. :icon_jook [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Caretaker
Because ED have pointed to this guy's work before. IIRC, i think Ed took his Ka-50 and lowered to poly count in order to better adapt to Lock On. - that Flanker and that Ka-50 model are from different artists - the Ka-50 model is not what will be in 1.2, and I very much doubt ED's model is based on that one - certainly I haven't seen anything suggesting that? - I also don't remember that ED has pointed to that work somewhere... - that Flanker is way above sensible polygon limits. And it doesn't have a damage model yet, which would further increase the complexity Fighter Ops is doing the same thing from the models on this site (i think) http://www.meshfactory.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=21_22_24 Well the plane renders on the FO site are based on models from there, but they are in the 100.000 polygon range, which is still a bit on the high side, but probably less critical by the time FO may come out. Again, adding damage models would only make them more complex. In other news, I'm still wondering what happen to some of these projects. http://fox3.idv.tw/snitz_forums3405/post.asp?method=ReplyQuote&REPLY_ID=70979&TOPIC_ID=7865&FORUM_ID=44 Me too, but in the end all of them have been 3rd party projects that may or may not appear in Lock On one day. So far there is nothing to announce, or it would be announced ;) The Il2/FB development history is full of gorgeous 3D models that unfortunately never made it to a final version that could be imported into the game. Don't count on any of these to become available until they are working in the engine. Caretaker ED Beta Test Team
