X52 pro opinions

I'm looking for a new stick for wwii sims and dcs p-51 and dcs in general.

 

I don't really want pedals at this time.

 

X52 pro looks pretty nice.

 

I'd really like to have something on still and hotas for rudder and elevator trim.

 

Can you use the x52 for dials for trim if you set the scaling and deadzones??

 

I'm also considering the saitech throttle prop mixture 3 axis control either for trim or throttle pitch and mixture for same sims.

 

Any opinions would be great thanks!

In my experience (I used to own an X-52Pro and I owned a Saitek throttle quadrant for 1 day), the potentiometers used in the Throttle Quad and the rotaries on the X-52 are both too jittery to be usable for axis trim.

So what do you use for trim? Hat clicks?

 

Currently I'm using my keyboard.

 

Has to be better than that. Can scale fix the jitter?

 

Or is hat the way to go?

The P-51 was not out when I had the X-52. With my Warthog, I am using a Saitek Cessna Trim Wheel for rudder and the view hat for pitch and roll. It is not ideal but my plan is to purchase two more trim wheels one of these days.

 

The trim wheel works quite well as it has between 9 and 10 revolutions from virtual stop to virtual stop.

 

Fiddling around with the profile might make the rotaries work ok for trim. Also the severity of the problem is likely to vary from unit to unit.

Rudder is pretty important on the P-51.... I'm using the keyboard for rudder with it and it's hard work. If you're going to use that A/C a lot you might want to reconsider 'no pedals' :)

I've Got the x52 pro right now, And YES, Both rotary's and the slider on the throttle are bad with the jitters. So far I haven't got them to work very good at all. When used as an Axis you can only put the dead zone on 1 end, it won't follow the slide. But it does come with SST software and Lets You Turn any Axis into BANDS or sections of travel. So I'll have to map Keyboard presses onto each band with a Dead Spot in between each band. You can also turn them into directional Axis and set the sensitivity, But each direction still has to be mapped to a keypress for it to take effect.

 

In Other words the stick knobs itself are to touchy, but if you map to the keyboard you have more control of it. Go to their website i'm pretty sure they have a page detailing what you can do with the software. Hope this helps.

I have just got a X52 Pro after my X52 gave up - had about 2 weeks.

It has a detent at about 25 and 75% on the Throttle which are quit stiff even with the tension screw off. You can open up and mod it but with a brand new stick I will not be doing for some time (warranty). I find this annoying.

 

I cannot get the Rotaries on the Throttle to be recognised even though I know they work as I use in other Sims. Again annoying.

 

I use the top hat switch on the stick for Pitch and Roll and have programmed the SST Software to use the same hat for Rudder using the Pinkie. DCS does seem to recognise the Pinkie switch as a Modifier which is why I moved to the SST program.

 

Other than that I am happy with stick. It is better than the X52.

 

If I had the cash and better space I would buy Pedals. I think for the P51 that these would be a godsend!

I use my X-52 throttle and I use the small wheel for elevator trim and the larger wheel for rudder trim with no problems at all. I use my trim constantly and I have used this same throttle for the past 3 years with no jitters at all. I agree you may want to reconsider the pedals. They help a great deal.

I use X-52 Pro and for the most part trim pitch and roll with the throttle HAT switch, not perfect at all but it works. On the P-51D I have set up the throttle wheels as trim but I don’t like it and then the P-51D is mostly in the hangar.

I can't find X52 Pro in any store (out of stock). Does anyone know when it will be available again?

Think they have a new stick. X-65 or something; not sure if they're selling the 52 anymore. Probably for the best. Mine almost took a flight across the room one day - the thumb stuck on the throttle gets stuck and drifts on mine - have to play games to get it to stop. I have a Warthog on my Amazon wish list and I think my wife is going to get it for christmas just so she doesn't have to listen to me cursing at the 52ProPoS anymore. Nothing like setting up to play just to get held up by crummy hardware.

The X-65 is not new btw.

But I've been wondering the same thing. All major retailers are sold out of the X-52 Pro. Amazon removed it from their listings except for the "used" section. NewEgg has is listed as "discontinued", Frys's now has it available on back order with a possible November ship date. I was thinking they might have something new coming out but that doesn't seem likely either.

Newer... And as much as I like the pro flight combat rudder pedals I'll avoid their sticks for good after all the pain this one has caused me.
