Well if it's ok, I'd like to butt with as much irrelevance to anything and nothing as the OP.

I chucked in a bottle of Becks in the freezer for a couple of hours. Imagine my surprise and extreme dissapointment when I took it out to see that it had frozen solid already. Even more of a surprise was when I popped the cap and it practically instantly went back into liquid, frothing everywhere (is this super nucleation or something? - maybe the OP will be able to tell us). Anyways I got a bit tipsy by almost drinking the whole frothy bottle in about 3 seconds. And there's not really that much worse in the world than when drinking a cold flat beer

HEY! Sorry for going OT, but does anyone know a good chinese style fried rice recipe? Seriously, I've been eating out at a lot of restaurants with the family lately and would love to make it at home.

 

You don't need a formal recipe.

 

* Boil your favourite rice as normal, leave to cool

* Take an egg per person and whisk in a cup

* Heat a few tbsp of oil over a medium heat in a wok

* Fry whisked egg until no runny egg remains then break up with a spoon

* Add rice and fry gently until the rice no longer clumps together and is completely warmed through

* If feeling adventurous, add thinly sliced spring onion out Chinese pickled vegetables (such as YaCai) a couple of minutes before it is done

 

Simples....

Great thread, have some Umm Ali, I normally remove the coconut and substitute pecans for pistachios. Serve it at as soon as it comes out of the oven and keep a little bit of cool cream to pour on top...

Ingredients:

 

 


  • 1 package of frozen puff pastry (17 ounces)
  • 1 15 oz can of sweetened condensed milk
  • 3 cups water
  • 1/2 cup cream
  • 3/4 cup pistachios, shelled, chopped
  • 1/2 cup pine nuts
  • 1/2 cup almonds
  • 1/2 - 3/4 cups coconut flakes (depending on taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation:

 

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Unroll puff pastry sheets and place on greased baking sheets. Bake for 15 minutes. You want the puff pastry to be golden and puffed. Remove from oven. Do not turn oven off; you will be using it in a few minutes with the same temp.

 

Break puff pastry into small pieces (about 1-2 inches. Add nuts and coconut and be sure that they are mixed well and evenly distributed. Place nuts and bread in greased 9x12 baking dish.

 

In a saucepan, heat sweetened milk, vanilla, and water on medium heat. Allow to cook for about 3-5 minutes. Remove from heat then allow to cool.

 

Pour milk over puff pastry/nut mixture. Pour creme on top and bake uncovered for 15 minutes.

 

Serve warm.

Yes I bloody well will be with real butter (or possibly some Bertolli olive spread) - one side only - depending on how dry the rolls are. A proper tomato sauce - home made, none of that Heinz crap. HP - nah, not for me. While we're on it - put a duck egg on it too- sunny side up sprinled liberally with some freshly crushed black pepper with a touch of crushed Himalayan pink salt. And a piece of wholemeal sliced bread to mop it all up with and a can of cream soda to wash it down. Ohh, I'm getting tingly at the thought
