Future Aircraft

I admit that I'm most looking forward to the P-38. One of my favourite planes of all time. So beautiful. And two engines to work with. :)

EDIT: And yeah, I know it wasn't used in Europe 1944 (it was in '43, but then replaced by P-51 which was more maneuverable IIRC) which is also the main reason I fear it will take a looong time before it is released, if ever.

I think that actually P-38 was used in Europe until the end of the war, just more in fighter bomber role. Here is fun video:

Yeah, I think you are right. I meant used as a fighter for bomber escorts. It seems it proved to be not really on par with the German fighters. That might have been a tactics issue though. Properly using energy tactics might have helped. Dogfighting BF-109s or FW-190s in a P-38 isn't such a great idea I guess.

It was used for recon and as a fighter bomber by some squadrons until 1945.

At first, P38 were built for escorting bombers over Germany.

But then they figured out it was not so good against German fighters.

A lot were used for recon as well.

I'd like to see Typhoons one day.

The main shortcoming of the P-38 in Europe was that the cockpit was a freezer-locker for the pilot.

The P-38 was the first American twin-engine-bomber (snigger) over Berlin.

I know none have been released yet, but does RRG have plans to make a Mossie, A Typhoon, Spifire MK XIV E.?

Just a question, and kinda a wish list.

What would you like to see?

My hope is that RRG doesn't just add aircraft from one country.:book:

i dont want to be negative here, but for now, i just hope that they can realise at least the current announced planes...

those lack of updates, excuses, and predominant absence from the head of the project is everything but promising...

alpha version in february, as promised, seems to me more than unlikely...

no word about the promised community manager,

no word about the map tools,

not even the p51 keys were handed out and they werent able to create a website within 5months...

man i hope im wrong, but for me it seems, that even the current announced project is in question...it just feels so familiar unfortunately..

Well, at least there have been some updates about the planes and the terrain, at the moment I think this project is on a good way. Of course some things were advertised differently and could probably be better, but still better than others who promised less and have delivered nothing.

I also agree: First the things promised, then see. I like to dream of a P-38 though, the last game I flew it in was IL-2PF or something. I miss it! :D

I'd like to see all of the F4U variants. The Corsair has always been my favorite WWII bird. I also like the Mosquito FB mk VI, B-26 Marauder, Hs-129 and Me-410.

Truly superior pilots are those that use their superior judgment to avoid those situations where they might have to use their superior skills.

If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

I share your uneasiness. I can't shake the CloD experience, perhaps unfairly.

Regarding the P-38, I'd love to see it in DCS, either developed by RRG or a 3rd party otherwise. The P-38 had it's share of kills in Europe and kicked ass in the Pacific.

Alas, one can only hope.

I would like to see the mosquito in this simulation.

It carried the same bomb load as a B17 and could also deliver it with pinpoint accuracy, as well as being incredibly fast, manouverable and versatile for a fighter-bomber of the era.

The engines are already incoporated inthe Spitfie (reduced modelling) that is to be released when the sim is released.

See --

for an interesting appraisal of this aircraft

Yeah, me too. I would love to see some pacific theatre stuff in the future. There have been plenty of euro theatre stuff in the past, IL-2, BOS and now DCS. Craving for some carrier ops.

About possible future plans, I have been wondering about the logic in including FW 190 A-5. It's clearly more 1943 plane, A-6 would make much more sense (or A-7, -8 or -9). My personal preference would be A-8.

I was under the impression that ED is developing the FW 190 D-9
