Mission Briefing: Operation Night Strike - Runway Suppression on Guam

Situation Overview:

  • Recent Successes:

    • We successfully degraded/eliminated the SAM threat on Guam.
    • Bomber aircraft China intended to base at Guam for operations against our northern bases were neutralized.
    • Helicopter operations successfully intercepted speedboats carrying special ops troops aiming to attack Rota Airport.
  • Current Assessment:

    • China acknowledges our commitment to retaking Guam.
    • Repairs to their carrier group have been completed, significantly increasing aircraft operations from their carriers and Guam-based airports.
    • Intelligence suggests a 2nd carrier group may be moving into position east of Guam, but its location is currently unknown.

Mission Objective:

  • Reduce the air threat from Guam by cratering the runways at the island's airports, ensuring no aircraft can take off or land.

Operational Challenges:

  • Increased Enemy Air Activity:

    • China has bolstered airborne patrols over Guam.
    • Any approach to Guam has triggered strong responses from carrier- and land-based aircraft.
  • Resource Limitations:

    • Due to high operational tempo, we face temporary shortages of guided munitions.

Mission Plan:

  1. Strike Teams (F/A-18 "Nightmare Flights")

    • Execute low-level bomb runs using high-drag bombs to crater runways.
    • Operate under the cover of darkness to minimize detection.
  2. Combat Air Patrol (F-16s and Optional F-14s):

    • Provide air superiority over and around Guam.
    • Engage any hostile aircraft threatening the strike teams.

Key Notes:

  • Mission Timing: Night operation to reduce visibility and enhance survivability.
  • Enemy Air Response: Expect strong and coordinated opposition from both carrier-based and land-based aircraft.
  • Ground Assault Preparation: This mission is critical to pave the way for our upcoming ground assault to retake Guam.

Flight Assignments:

  • F/A-18 Strike Flights: Low-level bombing runs on runways.
  • F-16 CAP Flights: Primary air cover.
  • Optional F-14 CAP Flights: Additional air cover if sufficient pilots are available.

Success Criteria:

  • Effective runway cratering, denying enemy aircraft the ability to operate from Guam.
  • Ensuring strike team survivability with CAP support.

Good luck, pilots. Let's clear the skies and set the stage for retaking Guam.
