I finally got to have a go of the code suggestions you've added for the coordinate calculator. They do indeed correspond to the doppler navigation system. Great work. I'm sort of baffled as to why all these control options aren't just included in the lua files by default. Do you have to hunt around in the code to find these 'hidden' or 'missing' commands? Surely it is a better policy for the developers to include all possible command inputs in the control options but simply not have them all mapped. At least then the user has the option of mapping these commands should they feel they're important. -

Thanks very much MadCat. I'll give them a try. One thing to note was that you put links to posts 25 and 26 for the MI-8 button scripts but the post 26 link took me to post 25. Initially confused I soon realised and clicked page 3 of you thread and found the info. Thanks again for you help. -
Outstanding work fjacobsen. I feel like I've learned something too. It seems the pitch roll auto pilot stability channel works from the left attitude power switch and not the copilots right attitude power switch. You would think the ap stability channel would use either ADI data stream in the event of the lefts failure. Perhaps this is an oversight in the avionics logic and it should? Either way great work fixing this issue for the community.

Does anyone know of any shortcut keys for using the doppler system? Specifically adjusting the range of a track and setting the course of a track? It would be nice not to have to fiddle about with mouse while trying to fly the helicopter with a broken stability autopilot. If there are shortcut keys I could just map them to my hotas. Thanks to anyone who can help.

I think probably the simplest method would be for the DCS software to just take the raw coordinates of the sticks position and set that as the FFB trim position. This opproach is highly simplistic and just works... Just as proof try checking out simFFB. It does exactly what I described above and it works great. Only problem with this software is it doesn't integrate in any way with DCS. So when you trim, the FFB works great but the avionics of your aircraft don't respond to that trim command. So for Blackshark I would enable the flight director for MI-8 just don't enable the heading trim channel.

Ditto... Unable to engage pitch/roll stability. Even run the tutorial again to make sure I hadn't missed a switch or system. Only realised why I'm unable when I gave up and came here.... -

Speaking as a fan of your channel Froogle and as a fan of all the DCS aircraft I would hope that you don't pull the video. I think the opinions you expressed in that video are valid. I think if people don't agree with your opinions then that's fine, not everyone is going to see things in the same way. As you stated earlier this is a first look at this new module and these are your initial impressions. As you spend more time with the product then your opinion may differ and perhaps you can release another video stating as such and give us some insight into why. That's pretty much the whole reason I watch you videos as I like hearing your thoughts on various sim software plus the how's and why's of how you fly each of them. I think pulling a video because a few people are getting up in arms about a disagreement of opinion is a mistake.

Also ED!! As it seems you'll be looking at this trim issue can you please correct the long standing trim issue in Blackshark whereby adjusting the stick x and y response curves from the default perfectly linear scale causes the force feedback trim position to become inaccurate. :thumbup:

I can also confirm this as an issue in my game as well. I'm patched up to version 1.2.2.71222 and I'm using the Logitech G940. The force feedback response is such that: Forward stick, trim = stick springs left Left stick, trim = stick springs forward Back stick, trim = stick springs right Right stick, trim = stick springs back If you go into the control options and swap the force feedback response axis you get: Foward stick, trim = stick springs forward Left stick, trim = stick springs right (doh!) Back stick, trim = stick springs back Right stick, trim = stick springs left (doh!) I then though, ah ha! You can swap the axis X response curve maybe that will fix the left/right trim issue. But then I didn't really think that through properly as then left stick = right stick movement and right stick = left stick movement.... So yeah... For G940 users and probably everyone else who likes to use force feedback the game is now broken. As a matter of interested I tried the trim system in Warthog and that is broken exactly as described above. :helpsmilie:

Hi Fifth, I'm using a similar system spec to you: Q6850 8GB DDR2 ATi 6970 Win Vista My rig is fine for all games apart from DCS Blackshark 2. Blackshark 1 runs fine, Warthog is fine when in the air and flying (a little laggy on the ground). Blackshark 2 however runs like a dog on anything other than the lowest of the low settings. Even at the lowest possible settings with native res (1900x1200) fps is around 30fps but is utterly fugly... At everything maxed (apart from AA which I leave off) you're looking at a slide show of 9fps. I would advise you not to spend your money unless you beef up your system or you'll end up with a game that only runs looking worse than the original Blackshark.

Who or what the hell is Winchester?

I maybe wrong as I'm no gun expert but my dad told me that ye olde Winchesters used pistol ammunition even though ofcourse they're a rifle. So in relating that to aircraft I believe you call "Winchester" when you've got ammo but not the right type for the job. E.g. "this is lead, hey wingman go attack that SAM site" You reply "no way, I've got guns but no stand off missiles, that thing would murder me, I'm Winchester." -
Personally I would recommend buying the retail disc version if only so if you choose to use an earlier patched version of the game you have the option to do that. If you buy the downloaded version of the game the download service you buy it off automatically updates it to the latest version with no way of opting out of the update. If you buy the downloaded version of the game you can easily download the videos either off http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/ or watch them streamed on http://www.youtube.com/ Again another nice thing with using the older version of the game is you can start up a training session, hit escape and click the control button, then you're in control as your trainer is speaking to you. I learn better through doing, rather than by watching, so I found this way of learning instead of just watching the videos a lot more effective.

Don't forget, on your Blackshark DVD (assuming you bought the disc version!) there's a videos folder containing guidance on everything from engine start up to employing weapons. :book: -
True it's a castor wheel but you do have control of it, it's not completely loose like a shopping trolley wheel (at least it's not in the game). I guess if it's a known bug though there's not a lot that can be done until it's patch. Thanks for letting me know shamandgg.

Has anyone else noticed that when parked, parking break on the aircraft will try and move to the right? I'm double checking with ctrl+enter that my flight stick isn't causing the issue. I'm also trim restting with ctrl+t to ensure no trim is in effect. I've even tried turning all the auto pilot channels off and that still doesn't help! I can actually see the nose wheel turning on its own until it's deflected a full 90 degrees to the right. Even if I put in full left rudder the wheel is reluctant to even recentre itself :huh: Anyone noticed this and got any fix suggestions?

Thank you for the link to the excellent article Winz. I'm reading now as I eat my cereal. :thumbup: Also Bigdog, I've watched your track and I would suggest just making gentler inputs. If you find yourself extending your cyclic a lot in any particular direction that is an immediate sign you need to trim. Trim and get your stick back to centre and start making those controlled gentle inputs again. I tend to try to only pitch as much as 30degrees in any direction, usually only 20 actually when slowing down or gaining speed. Always keep glancing at the VVI while you make inputs on the cycle, keep that needle on 0 and constantly be fine tuning throttle. I find the mechanical VVI to be a lot more sensitive and accurate than the VVI on the HUD. I'm no master pilot but I've found by adjusting throttle you get a feel for the engines performance range, you know when you're enter a dangerous control situation if you're piling in the throttle and you can hear the aircrafts blades really "lopping" into the air. :joystick:

Baal makes an interesting point. As far as I understood the Shark should only yaw to trimmed heading when the DH DT (desired heading or desired track) switch is set to the centre position and the flight director is turned on. In this mode the HSI will display whatever heading you trimmed in and the aircraft will always yaw to put you on that heading. The only other time I can think of that the aircraft auto yaws to put you on a heading is when you enable the auto turn function on the targeting computer and then uncage and position the Shkval. However, just like Baal describes, it seems the aircraft always does this anyway whether the flight director is on or off and irrespective of the position of the DH DT switches position. The only way I could get the auto turn to trimmed heading feature to turn off is by turning off the heading auto pilot. It seems odd to me that they would add a feature whereby the flight director in combination with the DHDT switches position controls the aircraft to always stay on heading when this feature is already provided for by the autopilot when the heading channel is enabled, seems kind of redundant unless it's a backup method to maintaining heading control? I welcome anyone with more insight to enlighten me!

Yes please fix the wingmen! I've had the "unable unable unable" problem on a few missions and then on the odd occasion they feel like doing something they'll proceed to run in to attack AA defences < 3KM distance despite possessing stand off ATGM's. Don't get me wrong though, other than this complaint amazing sim!! :thumbup:
