You, sir, are a legend! Disabling in-game overlay worked a charm. I was all set to think it was borked beyond repair. I didn't think to try this despite having seen it recommended for other games. Thanks for your thoughful advice, now I can enjoy the game :joystick:

I have also tried removing and reinstalling the ATI latest drivers (I have an ATI Radeon HD 4870 on Windows 7). I have also tried disabling AI from the CCC. I bought the game through steam but I get the same problem running the programme directly. If there's anything else I've missed please let me know. Thanks.
