Concerning MIDS, the correct procedure is still to turn it on after, and only after, you the "GPS" symbology on the TIME DED page. If you do it before that, the system will not be able to update Datalink information, since it's using incorrect data.

Then the manual is kind of misleading

  2. Shouldn´t there be a mode for combined usage of multiple pods in a formation, carried by 2 or more aircraft ?

Afaik DCS doesn´t simulate that (yet) but the pod may be able to handle more than itself.

I used to do that, too! They magically fixed this bug with the March(?) update.

worth testing i guess. Haven´t entered the office yet since the patch dropped. Any information in the changelog ?

  4. Haven´t seen this in a while, not doing IFA that often 🙂 Only thing i noticed is that i have to turn on DL and MIDS after alignment is complete, even so the manual says otherwise - doing so before often ends up in my own Datalink not functioning.

    Maybe a bug ?

Also when having trouble with GPS, switching it off and on again usually works..

Just remember, you can overwrite ypur stpt 26 if you use markpoints very frequently 😉

Exactly, that´s why i was wondering.

On a mission, you most likely will overwrite your markpoints, so punching in home coords during startup seems the only thing that is both realistic enough and functional - if you don´t get your steerpoints from DTC. At the same time, i´m quite surprised that the Viper won´t provide a home/initial point, such a streamlined user experience overall but this one feature is just not there 🙂

I use TheWay app, into which I upload steerpoints from the F10 map. Its not cheating, since you have a map also IRL.

From the app the you just click Transfer to DCS and steerpoints get populated (I usually set to steerpoint No. 699, so it then starts with 1).

If you decide to use this app, I would recommend you to use V2.3.1 (no higher), since there are some bugs which needs to be resolved.

Quite a nice idea, although the "proper" way would be punching in those points yourself on the DED.

Anyways, i wonder if there´s an answer to my actual question out there 🙂

You mean how to get back to the airbase you took off?

Set the Tacan channel to your homeplate and navigate to it by using Tacan

Set the frequency to the homeplates tower and call it for navigation assistance towards it

Thanks but no, that wasn't quite what i meant 🙂

I know about navigation alternatives, no problem in actually finding a way home. Not all fields do have tcn also asking tower for direction is not how it is supposed to be 🙂 I'm interested in whether there is a convenient way to route back home as described in my first post or if the Viper doesn't offer that kind of assistance.

  8. Been a while since i last moved the Viper. I was wondering: Does it provide any reference steerpoint to my initial position, like the WP0 on the Hornet or B on the F15E ?

Atm i just throw a MP on the runway or use the regular tools like tcn to find my way back home, i guess there might be a more convenient way to this ?

Also z.

  11. Since latest Update, i noticed on the HSI, the TACAN Symbol on a moving Emitter (Tanker) doesn´t move with the signal any more.

The indications for range, bearing, etc. are correct, the arrow also pointing in the right direction. The 3-sided Symbol tho is shown where the Tacan first got activated, then stays there even when the unit/emitter is moving.

  12. Using my JSOWs in WPN Mode with their respective targets set via UFC coordinates. Targets get hit spot on, what i see is that the TERM settings get ignored.

Example: JSOW prepared for 1st TGT, coords set, TERM set at HDG 040T. Releasing weapon at 35.000ft, Mach 1.4, around 30NM from TGT, within the IN ZONE parameters, at planes HDG 360. Now the big boy is gliding to target at 360 but not making any turns for the 040 approach i was expecting.

I´m currently not seeing what i might have missed. Any ideas ?

  13. So after latest update - still a thing obviously.

You take any mission with the F15E in it, load it up in the mission editor and change some parameters (no matter what, i added some static objects for example).

    Save the mission.

Every time, one of the already present F15E has the internal fuel reset to 50%.

  14. According to your screenshot, your radios are both in Preset Mode and both set to channel 1.

Whatever freq. your Channel 1 might be.

Pushing the 255.000 on your scratchpad and pressing ENTER will not change the freq. as long as you keep your radios on Preset Mode.

Try and switch your Comm to manual freq Mode to use the freq. you see displayed above your scratchpad. You will notice the Chevron in front of the freq. will also hop up to that line.

To do so, press the GREC C/M Button on the upper right.

Also: Do you contact the correct tanker (has to be a Boom, not a MPRS) ? Do you use the correct PTT Button for the corresponding Comm (as mentioned by Razor) ?

Lastly: Am i seeing this correctly that you have the volume turned down on both comms ?

    So isses 🙂

Präzise Platzierungen sollte man also eher vorsichtig angehen 🙂
