  1. Great idea, I'm neither confirming or denying if you stray from the river you'll get lit up. :music_whistling:
  2. Just release the twin engine variant and we should be able to pass it
  3. Awesome flying. I'll have a much improved mission out probably tomorrow, I've added more triggers and hopefully have multiple stations playing so you can pick. Any input would be appreciated (from anybody), this is going to be my first full mission i've made.
  4. Navigate using FM with the home setting on the radio. I explain it in my video tutorial for radio navigation VOR/ILS. Its in the tutorial section. Also did download my test mission and look at unit labeled radio for the settings I used.
  5. The only bad thing is we're stuck with an 8 track type system (which is fitting I guess). There's a battlefield Vietnam soundtrack that has a lot of good songs. Was thinking is put the songs in random order across multiply files then putting them on different freq. Sounds like some work but shouldn't be too bad. Also I rendered the songs at max setting in Vegas but I don't think thats needed, worse quality would prob also be fitting of an old 8 track as well as make the mission size smaller.
  6. You have to set "transmit message" then designate the file you like to transmit.
  7. Both those radios are AM, (although the ARN-82 picks up a FM subcarrier modulated at 30Hz from the VOR/ILS system) also it seemed to be modelled in DCS that you have to be in ILS range to get navigation info(for AM). With FM and NDB i've tested it out to 50 miles but ILS seems to be with-in 5-10 miles of the source for navigation. Since we mostly use AM in the sim (especially the huey because no JTAC) i'd have him use the FM channels. Side benefit of using FM is that in the Huey you can use the HOME(ing) function and it would serve a dual purpose. So when I made my test mission I set my "radio station" for music at the waypoint I was heading to.
  8. Good to know, I'm using my warthog sidestick (F-16 style) so it's easier to pull left. If it's modelled though i'll start going right. :joystick:

    Combat Tactics

    Thanks
  10. Thank you edited, nice vid BTW.
  11. (from the book "chickhawk") "In combat both pilots have hands on controls in case the right seater gets zapped"
  12. Thank you.
  13. LOL, thx for posting this. Gave me a good chuckle, I starting putting more and more troops/shooty things when I flew through the whole mission while only being hit with one bullet. I had to slow down to under 100 Knots for them to even see me. Feel free to edit the mission. I have all units set to excellent skill level.
  14. Thank you. I'll be making a high speed deceleration video today and I've found you have to be careful because it really puts a strain on the turbine/rotor resulting in low RPM. The key is to adjust the collective and pitch to make the RPM happy while still maintaining nose high attitude.

    Combat Tactics

I'm reading "Chickenhawk" but at this point in the book he's still flying slicks. Will be interesting if/when he transitions to the gunships, I'll share anything I learn but i've been using (mentioned above) the racetrack pattern, ingress at high speed, break off before over flying the target egress, rinse and repeat.
  16. Doing combat turns in DCS Huey, this is useful when landing in a hurry or turning to engage. Also makes follow up attacks easier because you can run in, strafe targets turn out and extend at full speed then turn back in while at a lower speed to afford you time to line up on target. P.S Does anybody know how to embed the video in the post?
  17. The NDB at Batumi airport and the ADF will give you an initial NDB audio beacon code once then nothing. When switched to ANT it plays continually like it should but (because the ANT isn't intended to be use with the radio compass) you get no directional information. I've tested with other airports equipped with NDB and I get the same results. When switched to either look settings you also get audio from the beacon, just not when on the ADF setting. To be clear, you get directional indication on your radio compass but no audio (aside from the one time when you initial tune to the station) from the NDB beacon.
  18. So tested out the NDB at Batumi airport and (as reported) the ADF will give you an initial NDB audio beacon code then nothing. When switched to ANT it plays continually like it should but (because the ANT isn't intended to be use with the radio compass) you get no directional information. I'll submit this in the bug section.
  19. I found the manual on the actual radio(s) so i'll have to dig a little deeper. Eventually i'll be writing a more complete guide to navigation along with in-depth description of the features and functions.
  20. I'm glad you're enjoying it. I'll be adding a lot to this mission as well as what you did (making different music stations), I've got people throwing ideas at me for what I should add, all great ideas. Since jtac isn't enabled by default I'm going to have to integrate it manually, but I've got a lot of work to do to improve the immersion.
  21. From my post in the how to section- "whichever mission you'd like either do it the way indicated in the first post or (as I did) have one of your friendly units transmit a combined .WAV or .OGG file. So to be clear select unit, set freq (I set mine to 40 FM but any freq in the AM or FM will work),set transmit message,in the file box select your file. When you're in the pit tune to the same freq as set in the mission editor. I used sony vegas to combine all the songs into one .OGG file but i'm sure there are free programs to do the same. Feel free to download my test mission and look at the unit labeled "radio" and see the options I have set. Tested with the hog, the shark, and the Huey."
  22. I agree with you on both counts. Up until Huey came out I'd never tried flying with music but in the spirit of this bird I'd downloaded some Vietnam era music and it helped a lot. Just enjoying the music you're not fixated on every little thing.
  23. It should, and I've noticed the same. When I tuned in my freq that's why I had to glance up at the gauge, normally as you point out, you should get the correct pattern. I wanted to experiment with the loop settings to make sure it wasn't just me. Thanks for bringing this up, with all the new stuff to learn I'd gotten side tracked.
  24. Not sure where you're located (time wise) but I'd be glad to make a sample mission and we can both get in it and test it out. I'll make 2 units transmit the same file at mission start and see if we can both hear it (on different freq).
  25. You'd have to assign the "transmit message" to one of the preset channels in the R-828 radio. Off the top of my head i'm not sure what those channels are. I've not testing the radio station idea in MP so I'll get back to you that one. You may have to have multiple units broadcasting on diff channels for more than one player to pick it up? I'm not sure. Also if you have to tune to a channel besides 1 then you have to hold down the tune button on the R-828 radio to tune it to the new channel. Normaly when we use TARS we use the R-828 for inflight comms and have the lead tuned into the intraflight R-800. I say the lead's too busy to hear music anyways
