Sounds like you have more experence with the ME than me. whats the easiest way to have one group follow another group? In the convoy mission I made I had to mess around with turning on and off the group AI until they kinda matched up. Right now they "escort" the convoy and I set the 2 groups for the same speed but the escort pulls ahead. I've also seen the follow command for some units but not others. Any fix for this?

Nice writeup. Hopefully I'll be getting to writing an additional manual for our radio in game. I'm still testing them out, need more mp testing before I get started.

Its kinda turned into a hobby of a hobby, lay in bed watching TV with my laptop making missions. Like the OP said I haven't gotten a chance to fly the human part of this mission, hopefully its up to snuff since I don't see any "this broken posts". By the way if anybody would like to do the voice covers for any of my missions just read out the text subtitles in the mission and all add the effects and put them in game credited to you in the mission comments.

No problem, let me know if anythings broken.

If you download the mission again all the forced settings are off except for what I mentioned. If you'd like you can change those too.

So this is based off the movie/book/event. Instead of 2 Blackhawks this will be a Huey flying CAS as a gunship and a Blackhawk. You have about a 30 minute ingress to target area, once near the LZ the blackhawk will land and deploy troops. The troops will spend 10 minutes searching for "the package" and egress to a pickup point. This is a cold start night mission that requires no radio, navigation is following the blackhawk and then following orders in the form of the ground troops/command/copilot. I've tested the AI and the troop triggers and they all passed. The only thing I didn't test is the couple Huey triggers but that shouldn't be an issue since they're simple ones. I have the Blackhawk starting up at 23:07 to give you time to spool up the Huey (game time is 23:00). If anything fails write me and I'll fix it tomorrow, also the only thing forced in this mission is scenes set to high, the civ traffic set to high, and the G effects set to sim. Feel free to change any settings you'd like in the ME but I'd leave the triggers alone unless you've used them before. You shouldn't need labels on. Give the Blackhawk some room but keep it in sight, the AI flying is a little erratic at the beginning of the mountains. No in-flight music this time (running out of music to use). MISSION **EDIT** just flew it, everything works as designed. enjoy.

I didn't even realize that they were forced on. Yea I have a radio station on 40 FM. To test the mission I have to fly them 100 times so I just had that stuff on to test triggers. Fixing now, BTW you can go into the ME and turn that stuff off. **EDIT** fixed. Only thing forced are scenes/civ traffic/G effects/ which you can change if you like. Kept the hot start so you could get to the convoy. if you'd like a cold start you'll have to either catch the convoy late or set a hold timer on them. As stated above anything you like can be changed in the ME.

You have to think though that if you mounted a rigid camera in your car, you'd see every bump. Least thats how I justify it. :)

The issue with modeling real world missions is that people get bored. This is a constant struggle with building missions, if you went straight from the book you'd have an hour or more of flying before something might happen. Thats why people telling me what they'd like helps, one of my upcoming mission's would be a "Zero dark thirty" type mission but from the chopper pilot perspective i'd think it would be pretty dull. When making a mission for say an A-10C you can at least scope out the area with the TGP and get ready for whatever, in the Huey you're kinda just bored bored theeenn you're getting shot at. If people tell me what kinda missions they like, troop drop off's, the whole red army coming over the hill at them (not a fan), some recon, medivac, it helps. I love the Huey so far and it looks very promising but there are things that are just not possible if you wanna keep it real. You're not going to be taking on heavy armor, sams (unless unmanned), a whole battalion of troops.

This so much. I've been playing DCS since the day they came out (literally, starting with BS1), and already this Huey sub forum is entirely different than the rest of the DCS forum. I've yet to see a flame war, people are all helpful and don't act like you're an idiot for not knowing how something works or how to do something. This is the reason I've been so active, making missions, doing research and providing answers (as best I can) and making tutorials. I know we all appreciate the effort and time. You guys are great, same goes for the whole Belsimtek team. Very open, easy to communicate with.

When firing them at troops even from a mile away you can see the impacts all over the troops but you may get 1-2 kills on a group of 10. Also sweeping the tracers all through them doesn't do much unless you're within 300 feet even then it takes holding it over the guy for a second. The comparison would be it's modeled like a laser instead of a shotgun impact pattern.

It's normal. most noticeable when entering or coming out of ETL, nothing to worry about. I've noticed it at different times as well, like at near max speed. You'll always be hand on the cyclic unless you're on autopilot, you can trim it for straight level flight but that doesn't last very long. I've started only using the autopilot when using the co-pilot sight or the door guns. If you stop using it for level flight you'll get to where you don't even notice the little constant inputs that are needed.

When you tell your wingman (Huey) to jettison weapons he drop rocket pods and his guns. Not sure if a bug or if theres a legit way to do this.

I "settle" for an animation and a trigger so you could say, this vehicle or this soldier fires/throws smoke here. Right now in my missions all my soldiers should be playing professional baseball with the canon's for arms they have.

Mission 6 "Patrols" Ridiculousness
wess24m replied to ScottishMartialArts's topic in Missions and Campaigns
I agree, I got towards the end of the mission where you're doing the last drop and throughout the mission I was able to stay within 100 feet of him despite his crazy maneuvers (as was said above). When I failed the mission we were circling around the choppers dropping off troops making about 60-70 knots and he goes up in a 90ish degree attitude and just stops in about 10 feet (it seemed like). So I go into a blade stall trying to match his stop, I recovered, but i'd drifted too far forward of his position. Quite frustrating. If mast bumping was modeled for AI he'd have lost it when he first gets into the canyon. -
I cover basic VOR/ILS/FM navigation in my tutorial videos in the tutorial section. I did mean this as a light mission because everybodys getting the basic flying down. I agree though, all future missions will be more enemy intensive. As I get better with the ME i'll add more depth and options to my missions. thank you for the feedback. Try my new "convoy escort" mission, should provide a little more challenging, as well as being a bit more self explaining so you don't have to keep looking at the briefing.

Well i'm getting better with the ME, took me a long while to figure out the triggers and flags ect ect. Still working on it. Let me know if you (or anybody else) has mission ideas and i'll make some more missions based off these ideas. My next set of missions is going to be based off the stories of the missions in the "chickenhawk" book i'm reading so they should be pretty realistic.

Is the Flight Model As accurate as it Should?
wess24m replied to Riemann's topic in Bugs and Problems
From what I see it turns off the trimmer. So you have to hold where ever you want the stick. If you hit the button it doesn't hold the stick at the trimmed location. -
No sorry that was my bad, I was going to have them broadcast a NDB for the player but decided that wasn't needed because you're just following the coast then you get popped smoke right off your nose. I'll edit that out. Thanks for reminding me. **edit** should be fixed now.

If you read the manual on the AN/ARN-83 radio Set, you can use it as DME. It's more involved than plain showing you the distance (uses signal triangulation) but the real unit can be used to find distance. Whether it's modeled in the sim is another matter, haven't tested it yet.
-
This is a longer more detailed mission. Will take about an hour or so to complete, there's plenty to do and shoot at (as well as dodging BEING shot at). This mission will test your combat and chopper handling skills, you'll be at near max MTOW most of the time (weapons load out and other) during the mission. Word of advice save some ammo for the end by the bridge, you don't have to kill every living thing to complete the mission just make sure the convoy makes it. I'd leave labels on for the first time you play as there is infantry not out in the open. MISSION Let me know if there's any errors or broken triggers, or how you like it. To avoid confusion when told to RTB that means your home base.(the one you took off from)
-
I'll have to take a look. I'm still learning triggers and stuff but I believe I put in a mission complete trigger.
-
The problem with that is wind drift and IFR conditions. A lot of the times you also don't have good landmarks to relay to the pilots, unless you happen to be by a river/road they can follow. This is especially true for long distance.

Thanks for the answer, I should have checked the manual, it says right in there duh.
