If you haven't made a purchase yet, don't buy any bundles as your first purchase. I purchased a Maverick bundle as the game client was downloading, then fired up the client to make my "first purchase" of almost $1,000 (before discount) only to learn when trying to check out that the discount no longer applied since the Maverick bundle I just purchased a few minutes prior meant I was no longer a new user.
I think a better approach would be to have like a 24-hour window and even send the new player reminders during those 24 hours to take advantage of the promo.
