Thank you so much for your response, @Super Grover! I'm very excited for this modules future and am so impressed with where its at currently!

Greetings, Like many of you, I have been thoroughly enjoying the phabulous Phantom. Even though its an early-access module, its remarkably feature-complete. Nothing I wouldn't expect from Heatblur, but it still exceeded my expectations. I did discover something whily flying the Phantom. It seems that the hydraulic system is not fully modeled. Hydraulic pressure and hydraulic pressure fluctuations due to flight control usage seems to be modeled. But hydraulic fluid loss due to damage doesn't seem to be modeled yet. I have flown many scenarios and taken severe battle damage (even completely losing my vertical stabilizer and one of my stabilators) and never lost hydraulic fluid pressure unless the engines shut down and there is no power for the hydraulic pumps. Again, I know its in early access and just released. I'm not expecting for all the systems to be fully modeled yet. But I wanted to know if full hydraulic system modeling is planned?

BFCM System Details / Dual Hydraulic Failure Controllability
Ludl0w replied to Ludl0w's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
@RustBelt Still, the F-14 has a lot of redundancy for a jet aircraft of its time. Even if the systems were implemented primarily for maintenance-style failures. In the scenarios I described where I take battle-damage, I am often able to limp the bird back and land her, due solely to the redundant systems engineered into the F-14. -
BFCM System Details / Dual Hydraulic Failure Controllability
Ludl0w replied to Ludl0w's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
@The_Tau Excellent video. Your explanations are so clear, and the diagrams / graphics are incredibly helpful and intuitive. You answered all my questions! I actually have more questions now, but only because I understand the system so much better now thanks to your video. -

BFCM System Details / Dual Hydraulic Failure Controllability
Ludl0w posted a topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I've been flying the F-14 (mainly the B) extensively in scenarios involving large amounts of AAA and AA. In these scenarios, there have been many times where I've been hit and suffered dual hydraulic failure (in both the FLT and COMB systems) but still had one or both engines operational. As expected, the BFCM always turns on when both systems drop below 2100 psi. Most of the time, I will have control over the tailplanes and rudders as expected, and will be able to limp home. However, I will occasionally have a situation where I do not have control over the tailplanes and rudders, the EMER FLT flags (both HI and LOW) for the BFCM on the HYD PRESS indicator will both be off, but the BFCM electrohydraulic pump will be audible. My first question is whether or not my understanding of the BFCM and backup flight control system in general is correct? My understanding being that the BFCM and backup flight control system is a separate hydraulic loop. Operating under this understanding, I'm assuming in the situations where I did not have control were due to the loop suffering a leak and loss of pressure (the BFCM presumably getting power since its audible but running dry). But again, I'm not sure if my understanding of the system is correct. My second question would be regarding the outboard spoilers. In most of the dual hydraulic failure situations where I also don't have tailplane or rudder control (presumably being a failure of the backup flight control system), I will still retain outboard spoiler control. My outboard spoilers actually seem to be the lowest failure-rate flight control system. This kind of makes sense if my understanding of the outboard spoiler system is correct. That understanding being that they are also on their own hydraulic loop that is independent of the main hydraulic systems (FLT and COMB) and of the backup flight control system. Is this understanding correct? And if so, is this system fully modeled yet as far as the damage-model is considered? Because I can only remember ever losing the outboard spoilers in dual-engine failure scenarios, but never when extensively damaged with one or two operational engines. My third question is whether or not the F-14A and F-14B NATOPS that contain information on the aforementioned systems are declassified or available and if they are, if anyone might know where I can find one where the foldouts / diagrams are legible so I can answer these questions for myself. Because I may or may not have seen one that may or may not have had foldouts / diagrams for the following systems, and they may or may not have been pixelated beyond legibility . -
@draconus If you read the beginning of this thread, it should be clear to you that whether or not all of one's money goes to Heatblur was never in question: The question has always been whether or not the cut changes. Whether or not Heatblur gets more or less of the cut of the funds. That is what I meant when I started this thread. I know that I used the term "all of my money" in my comment here. But what I meant by "all" was that the same cut of my money made its way to Heatblur.
-
@Cab You don't get to speculate about what I meant by what I said. And yes, you are misunderstanding my use of the word "all." I'm baffled and confused. You are quoting my comment, and telling me that you disagree with what I meant by what I said in the comment that I posted. I want to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you didn't read my username on the comments you quoted and maybe didn't understand that I made those comments. But I don't think I can anymore, since you are still going on about it later in this thread: Again, just to clarify, since I'm the one who wrote the comment that you're speculating on, you're wrong in your interpretation of what I meant. @Gun Jam correctly interpreted what I meant by "all of my money," that being that the same portion of my money made its way to Heatblur. IronMike also understood what I meant. You are either trolling, or a combination of confused and very argumentative.
-
Then you might want to read it again: The split is always the same, meaning that Heatblur gets the same cut of the funds regardless of if one purchases a module from their website or the DCS store.
-
Thank you so much for the information! I didn't expect to get information straight from the source! I'm glad all of my money still found its way to Heatblur!

@SkateZilla took the words straight out of my mouth. I made this post to ask a simple question regarding the means at which I purchase the F-14 Tomcat module. It was never in question to me whether or not I should purchase the F-14 Tomcat module. I actually already own the module; I purchased it through the DCS store. I found out after purchasing it that Heatblur allows you to purchase it through their website. I wanted to verify that I purchased it through the right means (the right means meaning that Heatblur still gets the same cut and that I am supporting them as much as possible with my purchase). Its an amazing module, nothing short of exactly what I would expect from Heatblur. So its hilarious that you would comment here to dissuade me form purchasing this module. I already own it, and I love it. I just wanted to make sure my money was going to the right place when I purchased it. @IronMike is right. This is not the place to discuss any issues that might exist with the F-14 Tomcat module. I wanted to know the best place to purchase the module, nothing more. Even if this were the place to discuss such things, you have nothing to back up any of your vague claims.

I wanted to know if there was any difference between purchasing the F-14 from the heatblur store vs the DCS store? I ask because I noticed that Heatblur allows you to purchase their modules from their website. Is this just for convenience? Do more of the funds go to Heatblur if I purchase from their site? Is there any extra content (skins for example) that one gets for purchasing it from the Heatblur store instead of the DCS store?
