  1. Is it possible to just run the server with the GCI software running constantly, so people can jump on it as and when they wish? Obviously it won't be as good as special events but its a shame to have to wait ages for the next one! - Shogun
  2. Thanks again for a good night, seems like a did a bit better than saturday (when I came bottom of the table for Blue thanks to a stray 120 catching Ironmike  ) - Shogun
  3. Thanks for the awesome event 51st, and thanks to 104th for letting me tag along with their flight :) Hopefully see you all tonight! Shogun
  4. Thanks for the info guys. With the vast majority of players seeming to only ever fly at ground level, I'm having a decent amount of success coming in very high, especially on busy servers. So a follow up question, whats the highest altitude I can expect to maintain in a fully loaded aircraft, assuming I follow the correct profile and am happy to run burners the whole way? At the moment I manage to get up to around 45k feet and keep it there, with a climb at a constant 12.5 degrees all the way up.
  5. Does anyone have any info on the optimal approach to achieving the lowest possible time-to-altitude for the fighter aircraft in game? I'm interested primarily in the representation in game rather than reality but any documentation on the real aircraft would be welcome! Thanks!
  6. Ok guys I need help. Yesterday I was flying the 15 and got into a knife fight with my opponent, who put me down fast. He was flying the 25 and used an r-60m, how do i avoid this happening in the future?? :helpsmilie:
  7. Maybe its both  Either way I really like it. Funnily enough I also really enjoy the servers with R-77 armed Flankers. However the best fun I've had in lockon was the 80's maps during human AWACS/GCI weekend, can't wait for another...
  8. Yep, me too! Thanks guys. For me the game feels the most 'balanced' with the 80's style weapon restrictions.
  9. Cripes. My sometime wingman flies with a PS2 controller, but then he is very bad at this game...
  10. In my experience - flying as SHOGUN, maybe RIPTIDE remembers me from last night :smilewink: - this hasn't really changed anything. Whilst the capability gap has been closed a bit, it hasn't been reversed. Correctly identifying your airframes strengths and weaknesses leads to the same strategies as before. Only now you have some Flanker pilots deciding to try and go head to head with the Eagle in a high altitude joust, still outranged by the Eagle, still without multiple target silent TWS launches. Still not going to win against an equally skilled pilot. The cunning flanker pilots - hi airbat! - will still be sneaking up on you and launching before you've even seen them. They just might kill you with a 77 instead of an ER/ET, but you're going down in flames regardless!
  11. It doesn't really matter what newer versions there are if none of them are plausible candidates for a DCS module, which is what I was hoping to discuss in this thread.
  12. Perhaps military customers for western aircraft DTS will benefit from having a Russian aircraft modeled in high fidelity for DACT  I worry that whatever Eastern fighter/multi-role is eventually modelled will be too old for it to be fun playing online. The current F-15C / Su-27 disparity is bad enough in FC2
  13. Looking past the F-18C (cheeky I know), it would be great to have a modern Russian fighter to go head to head with the Hornet. Now there are people asking for PAK-FA etc which of course won't happen, but are there any that ED could feasibly produce? I'm thinking in terms of having access to enough information, the chances of a military contract coming up, and it being modern enough to give a decent fight against a modern DCS US fighter. The first thing that comes to mind for me is the Mig-29K/SMT which I believe India is in the process of acquiring, hence a possible contract?
  14. Play online with a good wingman!
  15. The big question is what happens to the community during the two years minimum wait (assuming they do a US bvr capable jet next and then a Russian one) to get to a point similar to what we have now in terms on online play. Whilst some people will happily buy every DCS and spend the year playing it, others are only interested in certain types (the fighter jocks, mud movers, US fanboys and their Russian counterparts :p) The great thing about DCS-FC2 compatibility is that it will keep the ED community playing together for as long as it takes for DCS to equal and overtake FC2 in terms of the breadth of gameplay styles catered for.
