  1. I can think of 3 recent F18 flight sims that all did a (what I thought) great job at simulating the F18. I have no idea, so I'm asking.....did they base the flight model and avionics on fictional data? If not, how did they get the information? On a personal note, I much rather see the F16 added than the F18 though.
  2. I knew there were gonna be comments...but you seem to miss my point. Don't you think there is a difference between Jet Fighter and a sim like Tornado, Longbow 2 or JF18. All of the latter being a well developed simulation of a weapons platform even considering a large amount of data was/ is classified. All I'm saying is that some people are a bit too extreme when it comes to flight sims. And if the fact that we don't have a military manual for the radar of a F18 is the reason why it will not be added....I think we've gone too far. There are a million reasons why some ppl like total realism and pointing them out would be a lot more constructive than being defensive.
  3. I know I will get my share of hate mail for this one but I can’t help myself….. Why do you guys think we have to have an airplane simulated down to the last little detail? There is ppl out there who want functioning air-conditioning controls! Too far is too far….if you want it that bad, you should have been a military pilot. Most ppl out there enjoy flight sims for what they are….entertaining games with a good portion of realism. As long as it feels right and is in the same ball park who really cares if the radar is accurate to the third decimal. Talking about realism…..all current flight sims are *way* too easy to land. I used to be a commercial pilot so I’m not making this up…..even on realistic landings are child prove (and that goes for all current sims). What ever happened to making game play a priority? Mission planning, mission variation, etc. Personally I think LockOn is doing a great job at most of them. I just get a kick when I read some of the posts about adding a F18 or other platform to the game. I appreciate the fact that ED wants to keep things realistic but isn’t there a limit? Anyway…..I think that sometimes, some ppl just take realism too far….most of us are no fighter pilots and never will be. We like to sit in front of a computer and play games J Lets not get too carried away with what we want.
  4. Just because the F16 has been done over and over again doesn't mean it should stop. Think about it! Why? Becasue it does everything...fast moving A/A and A/G ability, day / night.....good / bad weather conditions. All you can ask for in one package. And since it has been done so many times over, info is easier to come by. Hey, I'm the first one to say that a F15E or Tornado would rock, but I like the fact that the F16 can do everything which makes a great sim. Status quo is that I have a slow moving A/G and a A/A only option for NATO planes....who would not like to see a NATO addition that does both? ED is doing a great thing by adding in helicopters. It has been some time since we last saw one of those. Anyway, a F16 addition sure would make a lot of people happy and no one can blame any of us who would like to see it added. Is it gonna happen....guess not any time soon but that's what forums are for....feedback.
  5. A NATO fast moving A/G plane would be great. What can I say...I'm not a big Mig fan :D The F16 does everything....but from the sounds it will be *some time* before that will happen. Anyway, at least it seems like there is still plans for it in the future. I just hope that ppl buy the upcoming ED sims so they get coin for all their future plans!
  6. I was just going over some old boxes in my basement and came across two games I think are the best flight sims ever to be published. Runner up: Tornado Best ever: DI's F16 Combat Pilot You know what I really don't understand is that there were dynamic campaigns back in the early 90's. Running on a 386 with 2MG of RAM. What happened? Why can't we have dynamic campaigns today? These are very though times for flight sims and it seems like the breed is coming to an end. So, someone might tell me to shut up and enjoy what is out there. And don't get me wrong, I do. I am grateful for games like Lock On but I really miss the game play that was offered back when... I think developers don't want to touch dynamic campaigns because some (F4) have been doing them so well and it has taken years to get to that point. But how come they were able to have them in the early days of gaming? For example...in F16 Fighter Pilot...for those who don't know....you could select squadrons and give them targets. You could destroy airfields and there would be no air support for enemy troops. You could destroy bridges and supplies would not get to airfields and tanks. You could destroy ERW stations and you had an easier time to / from target missions. All this was done on a campaign level....so you flew a mission and what you accomplished there had an direct impact on the following mission. You had to plan your missions yourself...AG or AA...it was entirely up to you. The freedom you had with mission creation, the ability to order strikes for entire squadrons and the excellent action and effect of missions was amazing. ***as you can tell....I loved that game*** So I just don't understand why we can't have dynamic campaigns today. It doesn't have to be ultra complicated...just do what these guys did back then. You can't tell me that we are unable to do that with today's computers. Which brings me to my runner up...Tornado. How come we don't have mission planning like Tornado in every sim? Is there an explanation for it? What a thrill to time your strike to the second and see 5 other attack planes hit an airfield just as you roll in for your attack. I just wanted to take a walk down memory lane and bring back some of the incredible flight sim experiences that I had with old sims. To be honest....it has been too long since I was last truly stunned by a flight sim.
  7. It has been some time since I last read anything about the F16 addition to Lock On. There has been some articles about the upcoming Black Shark extension but nothing about the F16. I have been getting back into F4 with "Allied Force" and a flyable F16 would make Lock On hard to pass. Anyone have anything to post? Thanks.
