I'm trying to modify the mission "Battle of Krymsk"... this features a B-1B strike on an SA-10 battery using AGM-154c employment. What I notice is that the B-1 has to get really close to the SAM battery (around 15 nm or so) before the missiles will launch. The writer of this mission elected to disable the SAM group's AI once the B-1 arrives within a trigger zone, ensuring the survival of the B-1. Is there a way to make this a little more realistic? Keep the SAMs AI on, yet launch the AGM-154 from high altitude within its true operational range...which is as much as 70nm, then have the B-1 rapidly leave the SAMs detection envelope. I guess what I'm asking here is what the range limits are in the program from where you specify an "attack unit/attack group/bombing" task to the actual target.

Script for making multiple groups relocate to random locations?
pbpullman replied to pbpullman's topic in Mission Editor
Thanks, Erforce! I understand the logic in your script perfectly. This will work. But, it really makes a unit disappear and then reappear somewhere else. Maybe this is the limit of the mission editor, unless of course it can be done with lua. And that's an undertaking that I'm not up for at the moment. -
What I want to do is have an enemy AAA platoon and a couple APC platoons to each relocate to a random location on the battlefield, say to one of 3 or 4 locations. They will relocate once any other enemy group has been hit by friendly fire, such as the enemy's command base or an infantry unit. Does anyone know how I would set up my triggers for this? I don't yet know how to write lua scripts, but I have a descent grasp on the main GUI features. I was thinking a basic way to do it would be creating separate trigger events for each group/unit on the battlefield, and once any unit was hit, it would set 3 or 4 flags to random value. Now I just need to know how to take those values and match them to corresponding destinations on the battlefield.

I'm new to designing my own missions but I think I've got the basics. The one problem I'm having is if I want a SAM system such as the Buk SA-11 or the Kub SA-6, which both employ a separate mobile search radar. I have them placed about 400-500 yards apart. The launcher never erects itself or fires. Do I have to do something special with trigger zones and trigger scripts? Whereas if I use an OSA SA-8, I don't even have to create any scripts or zones. I just set ROE to "Weapons Free", and it'll fire. I just can't get paired radars/launchers to work.

What strategy should I use in "Overwatch" mission?
pbpullman replied to pbpullman's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Thanks everybody...and John adjusting the gain does indeed help. -
Yep...it'll happen if you have negative Gs going for 10 seconds or so. I made the false assumption that I could roll over inverted and fly all the way home looking at the ground. Can't do that in the A-10. Not sure why though.

The mission seems deceptively simple. Yet my wingman always gets shot down, and it takes me forever to spot any targets with the targeting pod. However, ol' Wingboy does see the targets right away, which brings me to ask: How can he see them so quickly? If you've got a town with buildings and trees, and your targets may be no larger than infantry, what's the best strategy to see them? I usually use BHOT, but it doesn't really matter the TGP mode. It's like finding needles in a haystack. Sometimes I have to start 10-15nm away at relatively high altitude, engage A/P, then make slow sweeps with the camera, and even then I don't always get a target on my first pass, so I have to yank it around 180 degrees, create some distance, and try again. Very frustrating. Any tips for developing a hawk's eye?

Fraps dices up my video into too many pieces...
pbpullman replied to pbpullman's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Thanks Blaze, Thank you Blaze for a very informative answer. I do hope Fraps comes out with AVI 2.0, because a great machine might not see that bad of a hit... esp a 64 bit machine. Devrim...not sure why it doesn't happen to you... are you sure you record your takes in greater than 4GB chunks? My machine is decent...AMD Phenom X4, 1GB ASUS GDDR5 vid card, and 4GB of RAM, however I'll be upgrading the memory to 8GB very soon and probably the video card in a few months. -
Has anyone else had this problem? When I use Fraps to make a movie, it'll spit out several AVI files when I'm done recording. It doesn't do it when I try to make movies with FSX. I made sure the video capture key doesn't conflict with other keys, but for some reason, an 8 minute video gets chopped into 4 or 5 AVI files even though I never stopped recording. I tried looking for Fraps support, but found nothing.

Sorry if this is the wrong category, but I was hoping I might be able to convince the designers to add the AGM-65F missile, optimized against ships. What about the HARM missile? I'd gladly pay for an enhanced version that included these! What do you guys think?

I'm still getting the hang of creating JTAC missions in the mission editor, and so far the only thing I can successfully do is add a few vehicles. Is there way to add like a command center or other target for LGB delivery? When tell the JTAC object to PErform Task, all the vehicles come up, usually as "new vehicle group" and none of my structures come up. Is there a special naming convention or does anyone know if it's even possible?

Thanks...that was indeed the problem. Works like a charm now.

Hi folks. New to the forums and I didn't see this thread anywhere else. I'm quite familiar with Fraps and with video editing software, as I've made quite a few in Microsoft Flight Simulator. But doing it in DCS A10 has been giving me trouble. I was wondering what you video makers use for your screen capture program. Fraps works, but it always snaps back to cockpit view and it won't let you record using F2 external view or F3 fly-by view. I use the newest version of fraps, and Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9.0. I'm not sure if 9.0 was meant for 64 bit programs though. ANyway, I'll worry about that later. Right now it's a matter of capturing the video from any scene, and any angle. Somewhere I saw a description of video making for the DCS, but I can't remember where I saw it...whether it was in the product documentation or online somewhere. Any thoughts? Peter

So I just bought the download 1.1.0.8. version of the A-10. I'll assume I'm correct that there is no later patch or update I need. Before I made the /3GB switch the the Training Missions would crash halfway through loading... even after downloading the updated versions. I have done ALL of the following: 1. Verified DirectX 9.0c 2. Verified C++ 2008...in fact I have all versions and SPs from 2005 to 2010. 3. Verified my sound and graphics cards had updated drivers. 4. Made the /3GB switch... which has been giving me some stability problems and now A-10 won't even load past the initial splash screen. Does the fact that my sound and vid cards being 32-bit cause the problem? I mean, do I have to have 64-bit drivers installed on top of making the /3GB switch? Also I heard there were two start icons...one for 32 bit and one for 64 bit...I only see one launch icon...even in sub-folders. The game looked great when I previewed it...now I'm wondering how many more bugs and glitches I'll find :( AMD Phenom II X4 945 ASUS M4A79XTD EVO motherboard DDR3 1600 ASUS ATI Radeon HD 5750 1GB GDDR5 4GB physical memory G.Skill 1600 OEM Windows XP Pro with SP3
