  1. I would have still bought the game had steam never been invented, just like I did all of the other ED products. I would have felt the same way about having some spicy new fantasy units for the sake of fun. For some, and you know who you are, this idea of aliens or monsters invading is actually no joke and you know that training for a massive ufo or monster invasion in a simulator is serious business. The fact that ED has added a simplified game mode to make the game interesting to a wider audience is proof that they are already trying to take steps to sell more copies to gamers and not just hardcore simmers. By selling more copies, I can only assume that means more money to develop even better games in the future!! Smart idea I think... So.. The wider the audience they can attract, the more loot they get, the better the games become, the better for everyone who is interested in their simulation/games. If adding stuff like this takes away too much from the resources the devs spend on improving the simulation, then that is no good. I want the simulation to still be the main ingredient. I just think that it would be somewhat nominal to add some novelty units from a dev perspective since they can use all the techniques they are already using, and the increased attention the game series would get from more mainstream gamers would greatly benefit the ability for the company to make money off their software. You can't stop the mainstreams interest in these games anyhow, I think ED should continue to go with the flow, as long as its not distracting too much from being a serious simulation when it needs to be. With the millions of track IR videos on youtube showing off these beautiful and amazing games/simulations, I can only see more and more people becoming interested in the series or wanting to mod for it. To build on the simplified 'game' flight modes that they already include now, I just feel that adding in some more fun to the mix will only make it better. =RvE=Yoda has the right idea with the easter egg concept for something like this. Again, I am not saying it should be the focus of the games in any way, the games are already fantastic as they are and this would be an extra bonus for those who have spent a ton of time in the editor and want to include some really interesting units for their custom missions. Since lock on flaming cliffs, I have seen many of the same units in the editors from ED software aside from a few changes, I just think it would be mighty swell to see a few fantasy units someday. In fact, the new infantry units in the more recent game are a big inspiration for my idea! Many of you might not be worried about the UFO invasions, but surely you take ZOMBIES seriously.. No? Anyhow.. I love swooping in on the infantry, especially in the black shark. I would love to setup a scenario in the editor with a zombie outbreak. A small group of soldiers are defending a building and they shoot the zombies but they aren't falling! Zombies can only be killed by vehicle weapons and not small arms fire from infantry? Oh no!! The people are doomed as they only have small arms weapons! Here you come in with HE rounds and splatter the zombies before they can reach the people at the building! Now the rescue chopper comes in and picks up the survivors, you escort them to their base... On the way, a dragon like creature suddenly appears from the mountains! You manage to distract its balls of flaming spit stuff away from the rescue chopper and now its launching them toward you. Strafing sideways dodging the incoming doom, you lock on with the shkval and pop off two to the dome! Meeting up with the rescue chopper again, you fly off into the sunset and land safely at the nearest military airport...
  2. I love this idea with the hand signals... This is totally something they should add to the games for all the client controlled craft. :) Does anyone know if currently in the game the external view pilot head orients in the same direction as the player is looking in first person?
  3. Thanks for the messages folks, I have been browsing through all the pages in the user files section already. Thanks for the heads up though!! I didn't see any posts with new or custom units unfortunately, which makes my poor heart sink. I suppose this idea with the new units is something only ED could do anyhow, especially if you want to see the units have damage effects when you attack them, and custom muzzle flash positions, or particle effects. Would be so cool if parts of the flying saucer mother ship are falling off and exposing some inner machine parts. I think it would be really neat to have better gore effects in the game too, optional in the menu of course, but when you hit infantry they just turn into a corpse. I think they would be splattered into chunks in real life though with pretty much all of the weapons depending on range from impact, especially with HE rounds dead on, but I am not sure. luckybob9, do you know if it possible then to import a custom mesh and add it as a completely new unit to the game without replacing current units, even if its static and not animated? Can it have a proper collision mesh, or damage effects? I take it what your saying is I would copy the profile of an existing unit, or rather actually replace an existing unit? So for a UFO saucer ( with no weapons ), and I want it to hover around slowly, I could potentially replace the Ka-27 unit mesh with the custom mesh? For something like a UFO saucer, it doesn't need to really have animation at all, and in regards to making it shoot if the muzzle flash cannot be positioned, it would be fine if the muzzle flash effect was inside the ship mesh, which I think it would be as it would be a much larger mesh than any unit in the game. Instead of having complex damage effects like we have on the Black Shark and Warthog, perhaps it just explodes and falls out of the sky but doesn't fall apart at all when your attacking it. Even if a half complete UFO saucer alone could be added, I think that would be pretty awesome to see it flying around in the game. Especially if you could place lights all around on it.. :)
  4. This is in regards to DCS Black Shark or Warthog A-10C, or future games from ED.. Hi all, this is my first time going on the forums here and I hope I am posting in the right place! I have all the games from ED, and love the mission editors as well. Not the best pilot sadly but I think its because my x45 is getting all clammy. I have enjoyed hundreds of hours flying in these sims blowing up hostile targets with safe RTB, and of course that is mostly in missions I made so I know where the hostiles are, but yeah... I played online a few times and really had a blast too. Basically, I was on here for fun looking for a mod or something to add some 'spicy' additional units to the game for fantasy scenarios. If a mod is not possible, what about a DLC pack or something? Although we don't have advanced robots and aliens running around in the real world, we do live in a quantum universe where supposedly anything is possible, so we should be able to train for these kinds of crazy situations as well in our simulators. Right?!? :D What I love about the simulations from ED is the 'realism', and I can understand if everyone disagrees with me on my post here, but for fun I would love to see some additional 'unrealistic' units ( or possibly quite realistic depending on your beliefs) in the game. I was not sure if this is possible or not to do with this game series in a mod, or even what kind of modding tools they have for the public available. My suggestion here would require a ton of work, and so that is why I think it might be better to do as a DLC so ED can get credit and payment, they probably would do the best job, but if any modder out there sees this maybe they understand how to pull this off and have the drive to do so. If the ED developers/producers read this forum I want to say, I think it would also really help market the DCS games to a wider audience (which you already made steps towards by spending time adding in Game modes with simplified systems), by adding in some 'fantasy' units we could use in the editor. They don't have to be added to the campaigns, it would be awesome just to have in the editor. :) Now I realize a bunch of things I mention here are probably not easy to do, may not even be possible at all, but I am just expressing wishes for the game and going all out here. So.. Here are things I would love to see included in the games.. //// Animated using new character animation abilities - Human and Animal * Dogs * Defenseless Civilians ( You would naturally want to protect them. ) * Armed Civilians ( Give em a hand if you can! ) * Mech suits and robotic infantry - Creatures of the unexplained * Zombie * Alien little gray * Alien big gray * Alien big walker thingi * Ugly Monster ( can this one and the others below somehow attack buildings with melee?) * Big Monster ( could it throw mud clumps as a projectile?? Maybe spit green stuff instead? ) * Giant ground worm ( you might want to stop it from burrowing through the village there... ) * Dragon like thingi? ( Fires flaming spitballs, like dummy rockets no homing ability ) * Big dragon.. is.. //// Vehicles - Man Made * Futuristic hover tanks * Futuristic hover 'motorcycle' thing * Futuristic assault drone * Futuristic spy drone * Massive over sized robotic or futuristic looking tanks, treads or hovering ( mother tanks ) * Drop ships * Floating gun platform - Creature Made * Flying saucer * Massive flying saucer * Cigar shaped mother ship ( could spawn/activate saucers with triggers ) * Foo fighter light orbs * Alien hover tanks * Alien support vehicle I searched for new unit mods through the pages in this forum topic, also on google, and found no entries about new unit mods. I haven't really spent a lot of time myself looking online at what tools they have for modding if any, or if its possible to do with any tools for LOMAC FC2 or something, I have just been spending all my time in the editor actually so forgive my ignorance on the subject. So yeah, thanks for reading! I just had to get my idea out here, even though its crazy, so thanks for your patience. Hope some of you out there like my idea if you haven't already thought of it yourself at some point.
