  1. Maybe asked before. I did search can Saitek Panels be programed to be used in the DCS A-10? I have a set for FSX and some of them might be nice in the hog. Thanks
  2. Hehe, but my roommate used to be the LSO instructor for VMFAT-101. So I have an advantage. He is currently flying F-5s for an adversary squadron. And I have spent time on the Nimitz while underway with LSOs. With his instructions (an me simming from it's birth) I landed the real F-18 sim at Miramar on my first try. While hard to land it is easier than some think - in sims anyways since you're not worried about dieing. Help comes from auto-throttles and ACLS -but no one really uses the ACLS, but they do use the auto-throttles. (or in the future the JPALS) Just line up those needles like an ILS. Don't slap you hook though or they will ground you. He seems to think the Super Hornet is not that great due to it's size. But then again he fights an F-5 that has very little tech in it. I will get him to bring his Top Gun vids back with him in a couple of weeks, he used a helmet cam. He has gigs and gigs of vids flying low and fighting out there. Here is a take off he did for us. Note the bird near the end caught in the backwash. Oh you need quicktime - http://www.skinnypixel.com/Clients/HAI/video.php
  3. I mean I am cool without the Super Hornet. Maybe make a Russian jet so multi play could have an adversary. The F-15E would be even cooler to me but the 2 seater might be kinda weird (yeah I know both posits can operate the same systems - someone said) And another mud mover might not preform as well as a Fighter for escorts. But if i was to to really wish for anything it would be a US helo...again the two-seater problem. But having a helo lasing for my A-10 would be pretty cool...yep pretty cool. Something different form the past - like instead of F-16. btw - are we exporting Super hornets to other countries besides Australia? One of my friends is the commander for a real F-18 Charlie squadron so I would be cool with a F-18c too. I flew the sim at Miramar....yep pretty cool too.
  4. Maybe covered in one of the other 400+ pages but I just can not read all of that.. If the new aircraft is a F-18E I wonder if they will have full carrier ops.? With people on the deck and some "roger ball" type landing stuff. I recently got back into FSX and my SuperBug and using a cool free addon that has a really cool carrier op missions (not the vanilla fsx ones). Just to get ready if the aircraft is a Super Hornet.:book: My last request would be a pilot instead of the ghost flier we have now.
  5. Also just a no cost check - make sure you do not have tons of programs running when you game/fly. Several give aways are tons of icons next to your system clock, over resource hunger virus software like Norton or Mcafee can run your system down. For full assurance try Alt-Tab-Delete and look under processes to see everything. I don't recommend truncating your system but my old computer did pretty good with a single GTX 260. Of coarse that was with graphics turned down. Tuneup 2010 does a good job of keeping your system running clean. My two cents anyways for quick fixes. :)
  6. I love Norway! I flew over it for many, many hours in EF2000. :) My condolences for the recent tragedy and I hope you and yours were safe.
  7. ChrisIhao - Thanks! Are you in Sweden? Or Norway? Ta hand om dig min vän!
  8. Ok bought the cool master: COOLER MASTER Silent Pro Gold Series RSA00-80GAD3-US 1000W ATX 12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.92 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply
  9. Bolt-1 Drolling at those OCZ. My buddy in Sweden has them and boots in 11 seconds....lucky Since you guys obviously know what you are talking about, what is a good/best PSU and still looking at Vid cards too. Maybe step it up to ATI 6970?
  10. IMO - It may be good to having HT enabled. Most of us will never use it, like if you are playing your favorite game (uses 2 cores) Teamspeak or vent (one core) and have your operating system (1 core) running, you have all 4 lanes with constant traffic. But what if you add TARGET, TrackIR, VAC, logictec mouse programing, MFDs... and some might even launch a web browser, have virus and video adapter programs (Nividia) or other stuff running - without HT, you would be trying to run it all on 4 full time cores only add HT and you open up some more slots. IMO, HT might be a good thing. :book: Not looking for an argument or saying anyone is wrong just thinking more about it. :)
  11. Yeah guys - I factored in the Hyperthreating for my choice. :smartass: My business is graphic design. So at any one time I run Photoshop CS5.5, Dreamweaver CS5.5, Browser, Outlook and at other times Premier and After Effects. So for just the game (outside of FSX) it would not be a real plus. And even with what I do it may only help 10-20 %....But I love overkill. I usually ripple 2 bombs instead of one...even if it is not needed.... But agree with i5 being fine choice also. The cool thing now, with my new home rig, is I can bring my work home instead of always working at the office....or wait, is that cool.....dang I am an idiot
  12. I guess that depends on if you plan to really overclock or not. With a Sandy Bridge K and mobo setup like I got the intention is to overclock. While I can achieve good speeds with stock/air cooler the real gem is to go for more. Like Username said 5ghz with watercooling - Tom's hardware confirms this. OC can be a hobby all unto itself. I am not water cooling the north bridge (yet) because the mobo I am getting has some good cooling already. I did go for the larger water cooler for the cpu however. At $106 it is not that much more than a really good aftermarket air cooler. The Sandy K is incredible for $300. Maybe only four cores but built to oc and really easy to do so. It can compete with those $1k processors. But your point is good my friend, just justifying my cooler choice. :)
  13. 112th - Since I have been looking at systems for the last few days I enjoyed seeing what you are getting. Looks like a really nice setup! Exciting isn't it. New computer smell is like a new car smell: very satisfying! After you get it, if you get a chance, let me know how you like everything and what settings you can use for the sim. I am interested in that power supply and vid card you ordered. And REALLY interested in the Eyefinity when you get that going.
  14. Username55 - What Mobo did you use? Lane - If nothing else buy the TrackIR. It really gives the "suspension of disbelief" (if you don't know what that means: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suspension_of_disbelief#Video_games). Also the VAC is cheap and works great for comms and you could program it to handle some other HOTAS commands too.
  15. Username55, I did order everything (those links are from the receipt) I have not ordered the 6870 - I have to wait for a bid on ebay to end but if I do not win the bid I believe it is a good card...suggestions? I would love to hear feedback. I studied for days to decide on these components. Really like the Sandy Bridge & p67. The board and case are a bit over the top... but live large. I will let you know what I can get out of this overclocking system. I will probably only go to highest 4.5 ghz @1.37 But found this: "no signs of instability at 4,700 MHz with a vcore of 1.37-39 offset with highest load temps around 67-74c" Looking forward to that new computer smell......ahhh
