LOL Nice setups I don't pop my hood on my current WIP but I can give you specs on my box http://www.pwnedcomputers.net/web/cpuz.htm. O and it comes with a 8800GTX overclocked as well. Most panthers know I am a hardcore system builder and have heard of my antics in building my current setup. :D

I have ordered a lot of stuff from newegg.com with no issues. I also have local vendors for my company but that really wont help you.
Do it right the first time and spend the $ on a great box that will last at least 3 years. The above specs are almost identical to my box that runs lock on with 16X AA and 16X AF with 60+ FPS at all times. I only hit about 40FPS while on the ground next to a large city.

I love flying again. I just had to get my new stick lol. The 169th server is a tough server to fly in due to the SA11's and stuff. However after reading the brief and looking at the maps we have made available thanks to Ice's hard work the mission gets easier. Join us anytime day or night. Ask questions if you have them we will do our best to help with any issue you may be having be it tactics or system. :thumbup:

You do have to do some of both downloading and uploading to the game. How else would you get all the stats and be able to see other players on a server.

Sounds like one there is a DNS issue or two your ISP does not have a route to that ip for HL. I know in some cases if your ISP uses a certain router protocol then you can only get a max of 30 hops after that it says F U. Most ISP should be using BGP and OSPF though.

Well the 169th has a Colo box at a data center and we run the DL version with a nice graphics card. We also use vnc to manage the server. :thumbup:

LOL ya there is a lot of good squads out there. One thing to remember when picking one. You want to make sure your attitude and character mesh with the squad you are looking at. A real easy way to do this is hop on a squads TS server and see how they talk and interact with one another. The 169th is always looking for new pilots/friends, and are willing to help anyone learn the ins and outs of the game.

Your main issue is going to be whats the native res for your laptop. If you run an LCD in anything but it's native it looks like trash. Say it's a odd res like my laptop 1280X900 then you are going to have to edit some stuff to run that. I am going to assume that it will be at least 1280X1024 as the native. I recommend running at your native and turning some stuff down. Other than that is should run lock on nicely.

Ok we first off I am getting sick of other players getting upset with the 169th because they think we are a bunch of bullies or a stuck up group that thinks our Sh@# don't stink. We pay for this server so YOU have some place to fly. WE admin it and put rules on it to make it FAIR for all. As long as I have been in the 169th we have tried to increase the popularity of the Lock On community. With comments from people such as you kuky it is easy to see why so many new players simply snuff Lock On off as a bad game. We try to give everyone a great time and it is not EASY. Making the world happy is impossible. However we do have more people that like the server than not. If you have bad comments please keep them out of threads that are trying to be informative. You have a problem with a 169th pilot let that pilot know in a PM. Slinging crap talk and crying that someone thinks they are better than someone is just killing the community. I personally tend to ALL the hardware for the 169th server. I am the main network and system engineer. You have questions or a concern about the server hit me up in HL or on our site. I will be happy to answer questions.
Keep in mind YOU do not PAY for this server nor do you admin it. We enjoy HELPFUL comments on what you think can make it better. You say u get low FPS try and get me a track of it so I can check times and logs on the server. If it is indeed a server issue then it can be fixed. However I rarely hear of anyone having issues.
All this BS has got to stop it is a waste of time and gives the entire Community a giant black eye. I have friends that will no longer play for the fact that people piss and moan too much. Take this how you want and flame me all you want. I will however disregard anyone that is trying to pick a fight or just is simply being an A#! I am a nice guy and willing to help where I can when I can. Not saying I am the best out there or that I know everything. But I am very capable of doing my Job in the 169th.

A easy way to check is with a trace route. On average theres 10 -12 hops to the server. If you have more or any time out then your ISP may have a BGP routing issue. Another way is to try and get a different IP.

Well heres a kicker for you all. Linux will run Win32 apps. You just need a program called Wine. Takes some learning. Now if ED made a dedicated server for Lock on then it could be ported over to linux. I would kill to have a dedicated Lock On Linux box. Linux uses multiple cores way better than windows does. Fedora 7 is where u want to start.

LOL I think I will only offer my 2 cents if asked in this case. Just so people know where I stand. I currently work for a data center and own a game hosting/custom server company. I run the line the 169th server runs on. YES it is 50MB/s Upload DEDICATED to just that BOX. I will offer up my help to anyone that would like help. Until asked I am staying out of the flame war.:thumbup:

Amen it's beating a dead horse let the issue be. It is being taken care of in a private manner and needs no further talk.

I did see some warping on you ruggbutt while we were on the ground... don't know if it was your or my end... or maybe something else. I checked your ping and it was showing around 59ms and for me around 190ms.
Thank you for the heads up on this I will look into it just to be 100% sure it is not the server or a connection setting I need to change. Happy Flying.:pilotfly:

Well while at work today I kept an eye on the server. I loved seeing the low pings for players. Also the network usage is very very Low. This makes me happy as I see no reason why this box would ever slow down. So far so good.:thumbup:
