I uninstalled and reinstalled everything but now, the web cam won't even come on. I think I'm coming down with the flu too. I'm going to bed. I'll try to get it working later. May look into system restore. Thanks for all of the help.

V 1.6 is the only version that I have ever installed. I'm certainly willing to uninstall and reinstall. I just want to make sure that I do it right. I have already uninstalled the facetracknoir program itself. Is this the othe program you mean to uninstall? Since this says it's an installer, I just want to make sure.
-
The facetracker program itself, or the 32 bit .ini file? In either case, no. I installed the 32 bit files and it said it was overwriting the existing files.

OK...I tried the ctrl-alt-del thing. Man....this Win 8 is strange. It looked very weird, but there was no *32 mentioned there. I'm assuming that I am running the 64 bit version as Joey45 said. To eliminate the ossibility though, I downloaded the 32 bit version of the .ini file and tried that. It still didn't do anything with the game. The facetracker program works well. I can still see it tracking my face and I am starting it before starting the game, but once the game is running, it's not interacting with the facetracker at all. I gota take a break from this for a while. I've been at it all day. LOL! Thanks for the assistance.

Is there a way to tell whether or not I have a 32 or 64 bit version of the game? I can tell what release version it is, you know version 1.1.1.1 etc, but I can't find if it's 32 or 64 bit. I purchased it over a year ago and really don't remember. I'm guessing that since I was using a bare bones laptop back then, I may have the 32 bit version.

OK...back from the school. I plugged everything in and it still does not work. I've loaded the A-10C profile and configured everything as you mentioned. I can see the facetracker program running. It's tracking my face. It's just not interacting with the game. I wonder if I need to un-assign the POV buttons in the game, that I had before..... I also wonder if I have a version of A-10C that isn't compatible. I got this version over a year ago. It wouldn't run on my old computer, but I have a new one now. I installed A-10C right after Christmas on this machine. It's version 1.1.1.1 or something like that. I wonder if I have a 32 bit version. I'm not sure how to tell. My computer IS 64 bit. Any other ideas?

Well, I couldn't stand it. I had to try before going to go get the kids. I followed your instructions and found the files exactly where you said they'd be. I configured it exactly like you said and the profile was there. I ran facetracker and could see it working. Then I opened A-10C and started it, but nothing happened. I could move my head all around and it did nothing. Now, I have my controls unplugged and have carried the computer upstairs to do some other things. Maybe I need to carry it back down to the game room and plug it back in to more fully try it, but that's where I stand right now. OK....gotta go get the kids. Thanks!

AHHHHH! That 64 bit .dll file may be what I'm missing. The DCS A-10C profile isn't there. This is what I have so far. It's time to go get the kids from school, but I'll try to find that additional file that you gave me the link to when I get back. HOEFULLY, I can take it from there. I'll write back if I get lost again. Thanks so much! I owe you a beer!

OK....I found the folder. I've extracted all of the files into it and run the program, then the A-10 sim and it doesn't do anything. I've seen some instructions online that say that I need the correct .dll or .ini file for this game, but it's not in the list of profiles in the facetracknoir program. I got v.160 from the page that Maachine listed, so it should be the latest and greatest. Am I missing something?

Update: I found this site: http://sourceforge.net/projects/facetracknoir/files/Special%20support/ED/32bit_games/ It seems fairly straight forward, but I have searched for 20 minutes and I can't locate a bin folder. I found 3 .bin FILES, but they are not in a folder named anything similar to what they suggested in those instructions. I'm running Win 8, which is a pain in the rear so far. It may be in a different location, but a search of the computer finds NO bin folders.

OK....I got the camera working but I'm having issues with getting it to work with the game. I'll start a new thread about that. Thanks for all of the help with this one!

I just downloaded and installed FacetrackNOIR. I'm trying to use it, but can't find anything in the "options" of A-10C where I can assign it to POV. I only see my flight controls and associated buttons and axes. I see NOTHING in reference to Facetrack or my web camera. I presently use the china hat on the throttle for a POV, but it's clumsy at best. I really want to try this FacetrackNOIR. I know that I will probably spend a lot of time tweaking it and getting everything just right on it, but I have to at least make it work with the game first. I've googled it, but everything that I can find is about how to tweak it and change the .ini files etc. I can find nothing about simply making it work with the game. Where do I begin?
-
I have downloaded FacetrackNOIR. I'm trying to make it work, but it keeps saying that I have no video capture device installed, yet I'm LOOKING at one, right there on the laptop. Once I have this sorted out, I will work on configuring that hat switch on my throttle and learn what it does.
-
WOW! Thanks for all of the great advice. I will look into that facetrackNOIR. I'm not even sure if the laptop has a camera. I have 2. One definitely does, but it's the old one. The new one that I play the sim on is so new to me that I can't remember and it's not sitting here with me right now. I'm definitely going to get a TrackIR eventually, but until then I'm getting by with a POV hat. Oh, and yes yurgon, I can afford one. I'm just tight. LOL! Getting ready to take the whole family skiing in Utah for a week, so I'm watching my spending right now. I seem be figuring the Mavericks out, thanks to all of your advice. I've completed the first level several times since then and used all of my mavs. I've also gotten pretty good with the bombs. I'm having trouble figuring out how to change my SPI once I have it set in a target area, I kill everything in that group and try to move to the next set of targets but pressing long V slews all sensors back to my previous group of targets. It's a learning process. Thanks everyone for the help!

I'm not even sure what active pause is, so I'm doubtful that I've used it. I HAVE used pause. I can pause it, scroll POV around to where need it, put the cursor on the button I need and take it off of pause for a second to click the button, the scroll POV back to where I need it. I'm guessing that this is not the same. Yeah, that TrackIR 5 looks awesome. It's a bit pricey, but I'm thinking that I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get it. I think that would solve a LOT of my problems. I'll then need to finish configuring my controls. I have MOST things working properly, but not all. One thing that I think I am not SURE is configured properly is the slew control. I have assigned the axes to vertical and horizontal, but the cursor won't move diagonally. I have a lot of work to do.
-
Well, a big thanks to everyone for the advice. I'm thinking that a lot of my problems may be that I'm spend a LOT of time with the POV and zoom controls, trying to look at different screens. Trying to use the TGP more would probably make that worse.....at least for now. I really need to get a head tracker and a large screen. I'm doing this on a laptop. The screen is small. Trying to zoom into things to make it large enough to see is taking a lot of time. I really appreciate the advice on using the various HOTAS keys to optimize the weapons too. Some of that will be problematic until I get a head tracker, since I don't use the china hat as it's intended to be used. A few things that I can try for now is playing with slew rate. I'm having a hard time controling the cursor. I thought that smaller slew numbers would move it slower, but that seems to be backward. I also need to configure some more of the buttons. I'm getting there. This is going to be a slow process, but I do appreciate everyone taking the time to help. One thing that I've learned in the 28 years that I've been a pilot is that you NEVER stop learning. If you ever think that you know everything, you're not only wrong, but you're potentially dangerous. Thanks again!

Darn it! I just typed a long message and uploaded a pic and track and hit upload. I left for a few mins while it was uploading and came back and it was GONE. OK....I'll try to remember what I said. I've been trying to capture the problem that I've had on a short mission, but have so far been unable to. I was playing with it a little while ago and did duplicate the problem but it was pretty far into the mission. I don't know if I can edit the track files or not. Keep in mind, that while I am like many here, a professional pilot and have over 13,000 hours, I am not much of a gamer. A friend turned me onto this game and it rocks. I'm still learning a lot about it and configuring my controls. I also don't have a head tracker thing, so I'm using the china hat on the throttle as a POV. It's very clumsy. I waste a lot of time, trying to zoom into the MCDU and look around. I'm going to have to invest in a head tracker. I also have not figured out how to dispense flares and chaff, so my M.O. for dealing with a surface to air threat at this point in time is to head for the deck and run away. LOL! I'm getting there a little at a time. This mission I captured a track from started out easy. I killed the first few targets with the gun. On the third target, I killed a AAA site with a Maverick before taking out a bridge with the gun. All was working OK for that. I then turned towards some tanks, with a SAM site and AAA. I tried out the TGP to find the target and locked it up and switched to Mavs. I killed the wrong target. I thought I had the right one locked up. Not sure what happened. I couldn't see the target when I switched to Mavs, but it locked up anyway, so I fired. I then made a few more passes trying to kill the threats. They kept shooting at me and I'd dive down and run away. Eventually, I managed to duplicate the problem I've been having. I was in the process of locking onto a target and they all disappeared. Fortunately, you could see in the HUD that I was still on the target and not slewed off somewhere else. At this point, I turned off of the targets and ended the mission and saved the track. Anyway, I'm sorry that the mission is so long and I understand if you don't want to watch a mission that is that long. I just couldn't duplicate the problem on a shorter mission. I also am uploading a pic of the sticker on my computer. It shows what I'm running etc. Much of that is greek to me, but you probably understand it. I hope this helps and thanks for looking! helptrk.trk

That's amazing!

I'm still not 100% sure that this is the issue, but it's a good place to start. I'll certainly begin using the slew and TMS down immediately. I haven't been doing that. What makes me fairly certain that this isn't the issue though is the fact that I can often see the targets disappear and see the same features, roads streams etc in the same place. I'll see the cursor on the HUD still on the targets and if I accidentally slew across a target, I'll occasionally get a lock even though I can't see the target. Lots going on today, but I'll try to fly a short mission and capture a track and upload it. Someone posted instructions how to do that, so thank you very much! I really do appreciate all of the replies!

I'm fairly certain that I'm not hitting the boat switch, but at this point, I won't rule anything out. I have flown the training mission and the problem did not occur there. I've flown it probably 5 times with no problems at all. I'll give it another go. I think Wild Bill may have been onto something though. An issue that I'm having is with slewing. I'm using a CH throttle with the slew control set to the little thumbstick. I'm having some trouble making it really controlable. It takes me some time to get the cross hairs right on the target and maybe by then, I'm too close to the target and it may be out of limits in asmuth. I may need to tweak the settings some more. I'm not sure if I need to set some sort of curve in the axes or anything like that. It's difficult to control it precisely. I'll play with that tomorrow and will try to post a track if I can't get it working. Thanks so much for the advice!

Oh, and in the 2 pics, the airplane was straight and level, on autopilot headed directly at the target. It did not swerve.
-
I was low and the AAA unit was behind some trees. I wasn't REALLY trying to shoot it in that pic. I was simply trying to doccument what has been happening when I AM trying to shoot something. Had I been higher or approaching from a different angle, I would have been able to lock on earlier. The results would have likely been the same though. I've had it do exactly the same thing when I'm pointing directly at a target and the cursor is still displayed in the HUD, so I don't think that's the problem. I've seen the message "Gimbal Limit" or something like that. I can't remember exactly. That seems to be the problem that you're describing.....or is it? Is that something different? I also see the problem often when attacking 2 different targets in a group. I'll manage to lock one up and fire on it, but when I try to lock up the second one, they are all invisible.
-
It changes abruptly. I'll be slewing onto a target and BAM.....in the blink of an eye, the picture changes and it looks like picture #2. I can press long V to make sure that I'm still in the same area and I am.
-
I am using autopilot and flying straight and level when slewing, so that's not the issue. That's a good idea with TMS down short to stabilize the cursor and I'll try that, but for now, I'm flying easy/ beginner missions and SPI is already set at the target. I have very little slewing to do. I fly towards the target, press long V to get the cursor close to the target and then slew onto it. I only have a few seconds at times to accomplish this or the video image on the MCDU changes and the targets are invisible.
-
OK....I just went and flew a short mission. Below are 2 shots. Sorry, printscreen didn't seem to want to work. It kept photographing the desktop and not the game. Not sure why. Anyway, I took these 2 photos with my cell phone and it pretty clearly shows what's up. The first pic was of a bridge that I was approaching to attack. I first needed to kill the AAA unit with a Maverick. In the first pic, I was a ways from the target and couldn't see the AAA unit yet, but the graphics were clear. A few seconds later, as I got a little closer, I saw the AAA unit and slewed over to it to lock it up. Before I could get it, the video image changed and all detail went away and I could no longer see the AAA unit or the bridge or any other details for that matter. Any ideas? PS: If there's a better way to upload the images, I'm all ears. I did them as an attachment. I tried inserting an image, but it wanted a URL.
