Hi,
I think my question would fit the topic so I'll just post it here.
We tried Operation Bactria (MP COOP 14), Afghanistan CAS, two of us, me and my mate.
So we fly to a waypoint where is our outpost being attacked by insurgents hiding in the forest surrounding the area. We are told it's a high IR threat environment, and the deck is at 5000 feet. (It's high in the mountains).
So we both arrive, troops from the ground request strafe run and rockets, I dive from 20000 feet to maybe 17000, being very careful, and still get Igla launched at me, and few seconds later I am dead.
What would be correct approach in this scenario ?
I know people will simply say - "stay above Iglas". But I find it difficult to agree with..
The weapon loadout is 2 laser bombs, 2 IAMs, 1 maverick, and 1 rocket launcher with 7 rockets..
Are we supposed to be dropping IAMs or LGBs onto infantry hiding in the forests? And there are so many of them I simply don't have enough bombs to kill so many small targets spread out over the area. So an obvious choice would then be strafing or rockets. But if the deck is 5000 feet, and Igla's effective altitude is ~13000, this basically means I have minimum safe altitude of 18000 feet - kinda difficult to hit anything from that far away ?
What would you do in this case?
