    FWIW, in at least one real military sim I flew, the operator was prompted to sync controls before the sim started, so if for example the gear and flaps were down, but you were starting in the air, the console would have "gear up" and "flaps up" in a list and they would clear as each control was fixed and then the simulation could be started
