  1. SSS long press brings up FLIR image on HUD, when HUD day/night switch is set to "night". SSS double press selects TPOD as SOI. I read somewhere that the TPOD was added later to the Harrier and they had to implement it on top of existing software/hardware in the plane. Not sure it that's the reason for this odd, but very functional, quirk.
  2. Check out the Viper's roadmap, there's an "Air Show Smoke Pods" item in there
  3. Hi all Dont know if anyone has talked about this before.. I was modifying a few skins for LO, and found that changing the BMPs to indexed colours instead or RGB makes the image around 3 times smaller file size, and LO reads it without problems. The loss in quality is barely noticeable. A 2048 skin goes from 12Mb to around 4MB (the same as a RGB 1024 skin). In game, its noticeable the image runs smoother when using external views, especially if there is more than one airplane in the image. Its not a huge improvement but its noticeable. I imagine people on lower systems could benefit more from this change. VascoS
  4. """Working as a professional pilot IRL, MSFS is outstanding as far as its scope and depth. The "simulation" part leaves a lot to be desired however!""" Exactly what I think of it! :) MSFS these days is great to fly airliners with autopilot on. Buuut if you fly low and want to feel the airplane, the flight dynamics dissapoint. The airplanes behave as they are on rails. And even using the virtual cockpit it doesnt give you the feeling of being "in there" as lockon gives. There are some great aircraft designers that make excellent freeware airplanes, like the F16 from Kirk Olsson, but inevitably they stop at MSFS limitations. VascoS
  5. Yeah I agree with Pilotasso. Its not only the features of MSFS that makes it popular. The marketing around it is huge, the MSFS community in the web is amazing. And dont forget MSFS has been around for like 15-20 years or so and it has become a reference for flight sims. Anyone completely new to flight sims and wants to know more, google for it will inevitably end up with the ideia that there is MSFS and little more. Personally Im dissapointed with MSFS, but thats another story (and my personal opinion only) I noticed the same thing as Pilotasso, we live in the same place (sim tb sou alfacinha :-) and only got a glimpse of Lockon at the stores, and it was a late arrival I got a copy of Lockon from an online store a couple of months before it was available here. I dont remember finding IL2 immediately when it was released. Falcon4.0 never saw it. But you can find tons of MSFS stuff both in local and online stores. VascoS
  6. I am also starting to learn the Eagle after flying only SUs since Flanker2.0 :-) I had noticed these limitations you talked about. One other strange thing I noticed on the 15, in the TEWS I notice it "shifts" with airplane bank angle. Suppose you have a contact at 11 clock, you bank the airplane (but dont turn) to your left and the contact appears at 12! level the aircraft again and its back at 11. Its as if the TEWS doesnt compensate for bank angle, its supposed to be like this? Other question.. in russian airplanes you had a simple IFF, it told you if it is friendly or not, circle for friendly, triangle for enemy on the radar display. The Eagle actually tells you what airplane it is?? a MIG29/23, SU27 you name it. How real is this? how could a radar tell what airplane it is?? surely this doesnt happen in real F15s? (am I missing something here??) VascoS
