russian did studies back in the 50's and 60's to better their pilots abilities and take some stress away, it proved that in a stressfull combat situation, air blowing over the pilot's face calmed them down and they were much more apt to complete the mission and survive. as for the blue-green paint color on the panels, it proved that on long duration flights, the blue/green cockpit panels were easier and more pleasing to look at rather than grey or black panels. americans just pump air conditioning in, but only on newer helicopters...
