    What exactly is a dedicated server?

    Hey Folks,

     

    I'm still trying to understands this dedicated server. So as an example, if I wanted to play a mission with a friend, using my pc as the DS would I also be able to play as a client on said mission? Would I need to buy/rent another DCS licence?

    "Dedicated server is a stand alone program that just runs multiplayer games , no license required.

     

    You can run it on your machine , then run DCS and play multiplayer on your server. Or you can dedicate a separate machine to run the server.

    I have been off doing other things until the 1.5/2.0 Merge (other then casual flying around Nevada some)

     

    I think this thread answers one question , I have 1.5 installed and 2.0 Alpha . Eventually my 1.5 will get "upgraded" to 2.0.x GA , and I will delete my 2.0 Alpha , correct ?

     

    Second question, and this is not a nag , Has ED given and idea of when the merge will occur (how much longer ?)

    Go for 16gb if you can, if you can afford it why not? It clearly states 16gb in the DCS recommended spec.

     

    I can, but I don't waste money :)

     

    I have 4 slots filled, so adding 4gb means I have to buy 16gb ($80) not a big deal , but if it won't make any difference , then why do it ?

    I saw in recommended requirements 16gb of ram is preferred . I have 12 now and was thinking about upgrading to 16 , playing a quick mission with task manager on I seem to top out at 8 used . Would upgrading to 16 make a difference ?

    Many people said they're taking a break waiting EDGE or new fighters.

    Its not really leaving but they still dont play the game when its on their PC.:smilewink:

     

    I am taking a break right now, I'll jump in a bit when 1.5 comes out , but really want the new theaters , I have been stuck in the Black Sea since LOMAC in 2003 ( OMG, 12 YEARS !!! )

     

    I love the Mig-21 and played it a bunch , but the lack of realistic theater and adversaries made it wear fairly quickly after I mastered the systems.

     

    I am very much looking forward to the Tomcat , of course .

    Finished the campaign.

     

    Quick review (out of 5)

     

    1) fun factor - 5

    2) mission diversity - 5

    3) quality -4 (voice overs , radio messages, mission bugs ) could use a few edits and polish , but still solid .

    4) "realism" - 2.5 .... Mostly game limitations , really you'd never deploy just 8 A-10s without tons of support aircraft, f-16s , ec-130 , etc... f-16s would of flown a lot of those missions . But flying the a-10 for only FAC , CAS , CSAR , etc.. Would of been boring

     

     

    Why does a USAF pilot have an English accent ?
