  1. Hello,

Does anyone know of any techniques to change how a coalition is presented to the player in terms of IFF?

For example, I'd like to put a RED aircraft down, but have the surveillance track that AWACS places over it return unknown. Even without surveillance tracks, aircraft such as the F-14 "automatically" return opposite coalition aircraft as hostile. Of course, the intent here is to prevent offboard ID and force a VID to occur.

Alternatively, is it possible to force a neutral aircraft to act in a hostile manner?

I'm simply looking for a means to make this happen either via a script or in-ME action. Thanks!

  2.

They actually find us a favor.

Exactly. The F-16 is often referred to as the "Burger King" jet because you can "have it your way." Depending on the operator a mid 2000s F-16 could have better capabilities than more modern versions.

ED has selected a version that will cover a wide range of capabilities and make a lot of people happy.

  3. Hello!

I was wondering if anyone had suggestions or techniques for how to orbit a target and not mask the LANTIRN. Obviously this can be tracked with the masking indication on the LANTIRN display, but what can I as a pilot do for my RIO to keep the pod within limits?

    Appreciate any suggestions or discussion!

  4. A while back we received some nice screenshots of an SA-2 site. I'm just curious what progress is being made on implementing this system.

I'm also curious about the possibility of getting some soviet AAA systems like the S-60, KS-19, KS-30, ZSU-57, etc.

Appreciate any insight. Hope to see these in the future!

  5. Well, let me tell ya...

I fly T-38s for the US Airforce. After a week of training, we'll typically settle down in the flight room, turn on the beer light, and share stories and lessons learned from the week. We'll also usually throw up some videos of our favorite jets, just for some motivation. So, yesterday we were chilling and watching videos. One of our instructors is a former F-15C driver, so we are going through F-15 videos. Lo and Behold, we come across X-stounds excellent Where Eagles Fly video, posted by Matt.

I recognized the video and DCS right away of course, but what blew me away is that in this room full of pilots, we got nearly a full minute into the video before folks started realizing it wasn't real life! Haha I suppose they never noticed the disclaimer at the beginning. One of our German instructors even recognized the fact that it was Nellis, and proudly said he had flown there before!

So hats off to the DCS team. Your work on aircraft modelling, Nevada, and DCS in general was able to impress a room full of slightly inebriated fighter pilots!

  6. Hello ya'll!

I'm on the hunt to upgrade, and was hoping for some tips from the community. My main goal is to upgrade my GPU, and Processor if need be.

    Current Build:

    i5-4690K @ 3.5GHz

    16GB RAM

    AMD R9 380 4GB DDR5

    MSI Z97S Motherboard

    600W Power Supply

I'm not too concerned with current GPU prices. I'm just looking for something that can run 2.5 well with MSAA, etc. Appreciate any help!

  7. So I'm sure that ya'll know a common action SAM operators would take is to momentarily switch on their radars, find a target, launch their missile(s) then switch back off for fear of an anti radiation missile coming their way. This could lead to many missiles just going "dumb" and flying up high to explode at some point. It could also make it hard for SEAD aircraft to locate any SAM sites.

I'd like to simulate this in the mission editor somehow. I've done it in a basic sense, but am wondering if there is a more efficient way.

So far, I've been able to do it by placing a small trigger zone around the SAM, then using the "missile in zone" trigger to turn the units AI off after a certain amount of time. I can also use another zone to turn the SAM AI on again if an enemy airplane is in range. This provides a pop-up threat with an immediate launch that's not very threatening.

I suppose if I randomize the time the SAM AI is active, you could have good chances of the missiles either going dumb or homing all the way in.

Anyway, this is what I've been able to do so far. Maybe there is a script out there at can simplify this? Or maybe there is a more efficient way to use triggers? Either way I think it could be beneficial for at least 2 reasons:

    1) SAMs shooting up and exploding harmlessly around your aircraft provides a great atmosphere of danger without actually jeopardizing the player.

    2) This could make a Wild Weasel mission more challenging, as you must deal with the site after they turn their "radar" off.

    Thoughts?

  8. According to their "The Battle Sim" (Commercial product) page for theaters they are developing Afghanistan and Ukraine/ Crimea. It is possible they would develop this for release in DCS.

The requirements are different for these different products though. I'm not sure how much work it would take to bring those types of products in line with DCS. Probably a lot :dunno:

  9. It was a very nice feature! It added a nice personal touch to load into a mission with your friends and have their custom nose-art show up. Sometimes it took some time, but it didn't detract from anything as I recall.
