The Mistral ATAM, wich is the version carried on the Gazelle helicopter, is a very advanced all-aspect missile, that has no problem in getting a lock on any helicopter from any aspect, at a minimum of 3+ km. ( More of course if it is directed at a single gas exhaust - usually at the rear end of a helicopter, or under or above - or , rear-aspect of a fighter jet.)
I love to fly the Gazelle. But the main reason I bought it over the generally more capable KA-50, was that it had the unique capability, over other choppers in DCS so far, to function as a escort helicopter for other helicopters.
I paid my money because Polychop said it would be fitted with Mistral missiles. Every version of the Mistral has allways been all-aspect.
The question was raised again october 28th 2016 by “BigJoe”, in the “Gazelle Change Log”. The answer on november 7th 2016 made me no wiser. If I understood it right, it refers to an update september 9th 2016, were it says “corrected Mistral Missile performances”. But the first post in this tread, by “sirscorpion”, is from august 19th 2016. Besides the problem of “missile going to space…” that seems to have been fixed, all other problems remains ( #1 & #2 ), which “sirscorpion” lists under “any additional information”.
And it’s confusing, because as “BigJoe” points out in this tread, the problem was supposedly solved august 20th 2016.
I have full respect for Polychop taking it’s time to finnish things. All I’we seen from Polychop has been quality work. I bought the module fully aware it was in a beta stage. However, my concern is that I can’t find any clear answer that Polychop intend to make the Mistral all-aspect.
