  1. Do you own a desk top that can run DCS with all non-conflicting settings set to MAX?  Please share fundamental info.

I am considering replacing old paint with the latest and greatest - well $$$$ maybe.

  2. Updates for DCS and 3rd party manuals are harder to keep up with than they need to be. If cockpit procedures change when new or modified systems for the particular module is added, it's easy to identify a bug when, in reality the procedure has changed. Would be helpful to include user manual updates with module updates when appropriate.

  3. Thank you, I now understand your use of "the window".  While I'm at it, there are 4 possible bindings for force trim two of which are 'attitude and/or altitude'.  A third possible binding acts to recenter the trim.  Do you happen to know what the fourth force trim setting is for?

    Thanks, florate

Same boat! Still getting to grips with basic manoeuvres - lots of rolling take off, banking turns and an attempt to land at a place of my choosing - not where the aircraft takes me - normally resulting in No1 Eng destruction.

For now going with leaving it off, then after a flight turning it on to see where all my various trimming inputs have 'centred' the controls. Normally find the pedals are slightly left pedal forward and the cyclic about a third of the way fwd pitch close to centre.

  5. Moving DCS from G:\ drive (SSD) which was almost full to C:\ drive (SSD), which had significantly more free space, reduced DCS load time by 3/4.

The only problem left to solve is how to get rid of the six or so "DCSDLC Registration" screens, each requiring a click to dismiss, that interrupt  DCS startup?

  6. I am not sure what brand and model SSD drive I am using but I am pretty sure it is one of the common brands and not a cut rate. It turns out that my G: drive where DCS lives is almost full and I have 1.57 TB free on the C:\ drive so I guess I will move Eagle Dynamics from G:\ to C:\. I am pretty sure C:\ is an SSD.

Two questions: 1. Can I simply move the existing Eagle Dynamics folder from one drive to the next

    2. Does the path I most commonly see suggested: C:\,owner,user,saved games have any bearing on loading time or does it matter?

Thank you both for your input,

    florate

  7. Thank you draconus, I will try making more disc space on my SSD. Not so sure about  how to exclude DCS main folder and \saved games\DCS folder from AV scanning (Windows Defender).

    My present path is:

"G:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\bin\DCS_updater.exe" Do you see a faster path to speed things up?

    Thank you, florate

  8. After I "start" DCS 2.7.2.5156.2 the splash screen comes up and from there it takes 5 minutes minimum to be able to click "FLY".

I am running TrackIR v5, and Voice Attack, one monitor, ThrustMaster HOTAS Warthog and the following system specs:

    BIOS Version/Date    American Megatrends Inc. 4901, 5/14/2014
    Processor    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4960X CPU @ 3.60GHz, 3601 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical Processor(s)
OS Name    Microsoft Windows 10 Pro, Version  10.0.19041 Build 19041
    BaseBoard Product    RAMPAGE IV EXTREME
Installed Physical Memory (RAM)    64.0 GB
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti

DCS resides on one hard drive: Drive    G:
    File System    NTFS
    Size    573.90 GB (616,216,653,824 bytes)
Free Space    61.55 GB (66,089,279,488 bytes)

Would appreciate any ideas to reduce load time.

    Thanks, florate

  9. NATOPS manual for the F/A-18C has lots of pre flight checks, although most of the default switch positions are where you want them if you're doing normal procedures.

But it's a good way to familiarize yourself with the cockpit and I'm a big fan of checklists :)

type into a search engine "NATOPS F/A-18A/B/C/D" and it'll come up. You're looking for Part III "Normal Procedures."

Thank you Theodore42, your NATOPS suggestion is very helpful.

  10. I tried cleanup and repair but no help so I uninstalled Open Beta and downloaded and installed the Stable version. I have only run the new installation a few times but so far it seems to be running OK. There must have been something in a recent Open Beta update that my system (GeForce 1080) could not handle. I am hoping the problem is resolved in follow on Open Beta updates before it migrates into a Stable version update. DCS Support was helpful to look through the logs and advice me which procedures to try. I printed the cleanup and repair procedures for later use if they are needed.

  11. I am experiencing the exact results as "michelip" including the small screen which turns black and becomes totally unresponsive. I have Win 7, 64 Pro, a 1080 TI graphics card and plenty of free space on the 500Gb solid state hard drive upon which DCS resides. I should add that I also hope for support from DCS or anyone else who breaks the code.
