How do you space pilots pull off strafe maneuvers? I mean, sliding your ship sideways without yawing. Or, going up or down (whatever you call “up” and “down” in space ) without altering your pitch and roll attitude. What controls do you use for that? It’s a straightforward question, but there’s no equally straightforward answer. Every space pilot customizes his controls to suit his own style. The need for a control device that enables these moves in a way that’s both ergonomic and anatomically sound, has always been clear. Was clear. Till now. Because here’s a new control device, designed specifically with strafing in mind. VKB STG - Space Throttle Grip. For righties and for lefties. Forward and back, you rock the lever, using your shoulder muscles, as they're stronger at the cost of being less precise; but when it comes to strafing, here comes the precision only attainable by hand muscles. We were thinking about it and tried to make it happen. However, the internals of the grip had to be changed, too, to accommodate the new PCB. So alas in this particular case it wasn't possible. Sorry.

The cooking staff inadvertently left the kitchen door slightly opened, and this is what we smelled from it. STECS (all submodels) are going to have the thumb ministick replaced by a 5-way hat (4-way plus center push). This comes because many users complained about unwanted sideways movements when trying to go in one single direction. These voices were too many to ignore, so here it goes. that's how it is now ^ that's how it becomes ^ Also, a 2-axis ministick is introduced to sit under the index finger across all submodels. now ^ after modification ^ For those who have thumb ministicks, and would prefer to have a hat instead, we will produce a limited number of replacement half-grips which will be offered for reduced cost. Many commercially available throttles are designed, and ergonomically optimized, for use with a certain type of flying machines. However, STECS offers a more universal solution thanks to its modularity and customizability. Давайте же не теряя времени перейдём к подробностям. Ядром нового Ганфайтера является сверхнизкопрофильный кардан. Сделать его ультра-плоским позволило не только применение волновых редукторов (harmonic drives), известных высочайшей точностью и нулевыми люфтами (что объясняет их применение в микро- и робототехнике), но и прорывная технология электрозависимой жёсткости специально разработанного типа токопроводящего резинового полимера. Простыми словами, чем выше сила тока, тем выше жёсткость полимера. Для повышения силы тока требовалось повышение применяемого напряжения. Эту задачу мы решили на ранних стадиях работы над проектом, и она была одной из самых простых. А были задачи и посложнее, и мы решали их одну за другой. Перегрев – решено.
