  1. Mine turned up yesterday and something that may be of interest to some of you but not all.

The entire faceplate can come off with a bit of a yank, especially along the top but it does just pull out. What this means if that there is no contact with my face and plenty of air flow.

hey this is actually a great suggestion. Tried using it without faceplate and it's really more comfortable, thx

  2. I know this is borderline on the rules, and I apologize. But another WW2 sim has an excellent dynamic career mode. DCS is far superior in many other was but I hope some inspiration is taken from that sim.

    I hope not.

That kind of "career" is simply a succession of automatically generated, unconnected, and equally boring missions, where your actions have no consequences in the game "world". Really nothing dynamic about it.

I hope for a true dynamic campaign, Falcon 4 style.

  3. after some testing I discover that the crashes are associated with a specific chopper. There are 2 groups of MI-8. The group that is near your fly path is perfect killable. The group that is a little far away has one specific chopper that if you kill that chopper the game is going to crash... don't know if it helps

Nope, got crashes after killing choppers of both groups. Latest crash was right when switching to guns. Really hope this can be solved.

  4. I truly wish DCS would allow a similar feature, it very much gives VR pilots an even playing field with TrackIR pilots in PvP, plus for single player, lets you look around behind yourself in flight much, much more comfortably. IMO without a swivel chair (and even then, it's cumbersome as all hell), you cannot look behind your aircraft in VR, again, due to not being able to use your eyes peripheral vision in VR as you can in reality.

I also wish DCS allowed a 6 o'clock snap view. I use a swivel chair, but my warthog is center mounted, so it's not a great help...

  5. The online prop sim you refer to is probably Aces High; I find their VR implementation very good.

Unfortunately in DCS you can save a custom snapview, but in VR only the position of the head will be saved, not its rotation. Therefore no custom snapview will allow you to check six.

Using Steam VR Advanced Settings I have been able to find a way to have a "Linda Blair" snapview in another VR flight sim (see this thread for full explanation). Since it depends on a SteamVR setting it should work also in DCS, but for some reason I was not able to make it work.

Give it a try, you may be luckier...

  6. My thoughts exactly. I actually think HP know exactly what they're doing here, having identified a demand for the highest resolution possible from people who have less interest in using hand controllers i.e. the sim community.

Lol, the "sim community" is not even a small blip on HP radar... The Reverb is squaredly addressed to the business user, SteamVR compatibility is just an added bonus deriving from WMR compatibility... I wonder if the HP people involved in this project have ever even heard of such a thing as "the sim community"

  7. should be possible in SteamVR, thanks to the latest OpenVR advanced settings https://github.com/OpenVR-Advanced-Settings/OpenVR-AdvancedSettings

which includes a snap view with customizable angle:

    Quote

    Snap Turn
: Allows snap (instant) turning by the specified angle. Can type in values or use the preset buttons for angles that neatly divide 360 degrees. Must bind actions via SteamVR Input interface.

that you can bind to any button of any VR controller:

I can make it work in IL2, but not in DCS, even when running DCS in SteamVR mode.

  8. Is the F-14 working as multi-role over the Caucasus now? Eagerly awaiting multirole over the PG as well (I assume it is still CAP only?)

Dunno, but after a bazillion CAP missions I was assigned a bridge strike, at night. Then only more CAP missions until I changed campaign... :smilewink:

  9. I recommend the Desert Warthog 06 campaign.

It's very doable, the Hornets slaughter the Mig29s and once at the target you can wreak havoc and destruction with your Warthog.

It requires judicious choice of ingress routes and some NOE flying, as well as the right choice of weapons. Fantastic stuff.
