It'd be cool if there could be a single button/combo of buttons to toggle a video recording of the screen.

    Maybe there is...?

nVidia has a built-in function to do exactly that. Requires the nVidia experience software though.

Has it crossed your mind at any moment, that there are other usecases for computers than gaming?

You might want to read my comment again. I wasn't referring ONLY to gaming, but to the point people are complaining that an electronic, power-hungry device is *shock* consuming lots of power.

I don't want to pay for fuel for a tractor unit that only does 8 miles to the gallon, so I don't own one. If I wanted the tractor unit, I wouldn't then be complaining it only did 8 MPG. Same with computers. They use a lot of electricity, so if you want a computer, don't complain your electric bill doubled.

People seem to be wanting a 1-liter 3-cylinder petrol powered car that does 0-60 in 1.3 seconds and has a top speed of 210 MPH. LOL. It isn't going to happen, and the same is true with computers.

You want more compute power? Need more electricity to run it.

While I appreciate individuals the unfortunate truth is almost anyone can be replaced though it might cause delays, so I'm not too worried about that, not that it's a good sign either. But to my original point, that ED hasn't placed a disclaimer on the Razbam products they are selling informing potential buyers of the current status (that doesn't look too promising from our consumer standpoint) is not in line with honest business practices. There hasn't even been a statement of continued support from ED of Razbam products regardless of reconciliation. The official response from ED (if you can even call it that) was definitely lacking in my honest opinion.

While I don't disagree with you, would you want to work with a company that had unknown, yet apparently very serious problems related to money? I sure as hell wouldn't! Been there in the past...never again.

  4. At the last count, three RB devs had quit. Their flight model guy, 3D model guy, and the guy who did the M2000 updates.

Even if RB patch things up with ED, they don't have devs to continue work.

It may well be that it was something like lower end kit (which they might not have tested it on much until thrown to a much wider testing pool) that it ended up as being unusable on. Its hinted at it was an OS v hardware thing. Wasn't there a thing with people still on Windows 10 and certain CPUs and scheduling that was a bit hooky in the past?

From what I understand, it was Windows 11 that choked on P-cores/E-cores of the latest Intel processors. It would schedule threads onto E-cores and then die if any of them MT with anything on a P-core due to the performance difference between the two. That ignores the fact the whole E/P core thing is just the dumbest idea Intel have had yet. Who the hell doesn't want max performance all the time? If you're that worried about power consumption, computing isn't for you. Gamers sure as hell don't want power efficiency as that is directly proportional to lower performance for a given piece of silicon. It's physics; not wishful thinking.

The thing with this browser integration is it is probably trying to use E-cores because what websites need performance? Chromium wants to be efficient. This is probably where the problem lies.

    Huh...LOL!

Uhh...yeah. Maybe read the docs next time? I found this after 10 seconds on Google. I wouldn't put this software near anything I was writing. Ever.

    This link: https://developer.chrome.com/blog/renderingng/

gives 404. That tells you everything you need to know about the rubbish state of this software! Junk.

  6. Well...it is April 17th, the DCS patch dropped, and no F-4.

By HB's own statement, they are now into "an absolute worst case scenario" of May release, which given the reason it is delayed in the first place (a silly idea to incorporate a web browser into DCS, which for some inexplicable reason only blew up on test computers) really is not good.

Considering they knew about this problem in December, and it is now April (four months later), I'm doubtful they will magically get it working in just 4 weeks time, especially as there is zero news about how it is going, that they think it is now fixed internally, or that it is in hardcore testing ready for release.

I'm betting a minimum of two more months, or June.

My biggest problem with this narrative is that no dev computer, or the F-4 demo computer apparently showed any hint of a catastrophic failure. I'm not entirely believing what they have to say about the problem.

Short answer:  yes, we have the more powerful engines in DCS.

Long answer:  The Mi-17 is the export version of what in Russian service is called the Mi-8MT.  The DCS Mi-8 is modeled on an improved version of the Mi-8MT (the Mi-8MTV2) with improved hot-and-high performance and other enhancements over the basic Mi-8MT.

    Very cool! Thanks!

No.1 rule of DCS: Everything takes longer than expected. It's just something one needs to get used to.

In this case though, it was a monumental screw-up even Microsoft would have trouble matching. Core tech that has allegedly been worked on for at least a year, suddenly and unexpectedly breaks most systems on first test. Nope...don't buy it.

  9. You need to remember the AoA indexer for landing shows "on speed" in a +1 g condition when configured for landing AND ON APPROACH GLIDE PATH.

If you are stabilized at +1 g on the approach path, and it shows the UP chevron, then you are too slow and need to add power. Sink rate will be high, and if you pull the nose up, you will just increase AoA and drag, slow further and steepen the descent, which will result in landing short if not corrected.

  10. A very interesting discussion.

I find it hard to fly online for some of the reasons mentioned by @zerO_crash. The big one is just "yanking and banking" and basically flying in ways that would get you killed in a real aircraft.

I don't believe for a second an F-18 pilot wouldn't use all the g available if in a real fight against an opponent intent on killing him. He's going to max perform that aircraft to the limit to avoid being killed.

Aerial fights, if conducted realistically, are like a game of chess. You maneuver not always to kill your opponent, but force them into an error, or create a window of escape for yourself. Sure, if the other guy is getting an accurate track and is shooting then "fight's on", but not every engagement works out that way. This is where the sim world is totally different - every fight is to the merge, if they didn't manage to kill you before then. IRL, pilots generally want to go home to their families.
