I'm new on the forum and your guides are gold. Thanks a lot!!

@ David OC,
My 3 x 1080p monitors are all connected with individual DisplayPort cables to the 1080 Ti.
I no longer use Nvidia Surround as I found it to be a bit 'flaky' at times. I simply setup my monitors as '3 Screen' and 5.33 aspect ratio in DCS.
-
@TJ,
If I'm gonna upgrade my three 1080 monitors to three 1440..... I'm gonna need a loan!... ;)
-
@ElementLT,
I already had it selected, but I now also selected the other settings that I can see on your screenshot.
I'll give them a try. :)
-
@TJ,
Actually, since I'm using 3 x 1080p monitors, I'm at 5760.
-
@ TJ,
Actually, that screencap was taken over Dubai.
Also, I have my pagefile set to 16 GB. Could that be the difference?
-
@TJ,
Unfortunately, the native resolution of 2 of my 3 monitors is 1080.
-
@derodo,
Alright then. I guess we wait for Vulkan... :(

-
@Headwarp,
Thanks for some good insight into your experience and for providing some recommendations.
I use a TrackIR 5 and I would be thrilled if I could get a steady 45 FPS. Unfortunately, as I mentioned in my previous posts, I seem to be stuck in low 20s ad vitam aeternam.
I also get up to 60 FPS when I'm basically looking at... nothing.
I'll keep my trials and errors testing going, and hope that Vulkan may help us all someday. :)
-
@TJ,
I just checked, and my RAM usage holds steady at 57% (about 13.7 GB/24 GB).
As soon as I can upload a screenshot, I'll post my settings.
-
@erniedaoage,
Good suggestion, but I have tried both Windowed and Fullscreen with no change in FPS.
-
I agree with everything you mentioned TJ, now I just need to figure out how to 'tune' my system to take advantage of the new card as much as possible.
BTW, I just ran the Single Threaded CPU MARK and got 2391 (91th Percentile) - They sure don't make things like they used to... :)
Thanks a lot for all the feedback/help!

Check this website out:

Yes- I get that your overclocked and you will score higher than the 1952 that this website shows. But as you can see the current gen cpu is scoring 2864 and can also be overclocked (though no where near the same percent of the 2600k- it’s an overclocking beast!)
That’s a huge performance increase and where you need to allocate your dollars- although most agree you can save some coin and stick with the 8700k. :)
Good luck
TJ

@TJ,
I just downloaded and ran Passmark, and I got the following (typed since I can't upload an image):
PASSMARK: 5072 (92nd percentile)
CPU MARK: 8855 (75th Percentile)
2D MARK: 777 (76th Percentile)
3D MARK: 12745 (98th Percentile)
MEMORY MARK: 2504 (83rd Percentile)
You'd think I could run DCS 2.5 properly...

@TJ,
I currently have 24 GB of DDR3 (had 16 GB previously). I really haven't noticed a difference though.
-
@Tj1376,
I'm sure you're right about the 2600K.
Thanks for the heads-up on the new CPU release. I'll keep my eye on it!
-
@derodo,
According to thebottlenecker.com, this CPU/GPU combo was only supposed to only have a slight bottleneck (although it only offers the stock 2600K at 3.4GHz, and mine is OC'd to 4.4), so I thought I was safe.
My fear is I already spent over CAD$1200 for this 1080 Ti, and what if I go out and buy new CPU/MB/RAM for $$$ and DCS's FPS still don't go up very much. That's a lot of $ (which I don't have) for one game/sim.
I'll try bringing down the trees, but I'm sure the rendering will be very disappointing.
Thanks for the constructive input!
-
@BoneDust,
At this point, I would settle for a 15 FPS gain... :(
-
@derodo,
To be honest, I haven't checked whether my i7-2600K is bottlenecking DCS (it's been such a great CPU for everything else) . Doesn't DCS use all cores?
You got me scared that a CPU/MB/RAM upgrade is required to see some better frame rates... :(
-
@ Aluminum Donkey, Tks! It's just unfortunate (so far) that the upgrade doesn't help.
And... Check, Check and Check on the suggestions.
-
@toutenglisse,
That was for 1.5 though. I was really hoping that it wouldn't be the case in 2.5. :(
-
Badlego: I only replaced my video card, those wouldn't change.
-
Hey Mustang,
I tried to upload a screencap for you, but I'm asked for a URL address when I click on 'Insert Image'...
Is it because I'm new and don't have enough posts yet?
-
I just upgraded from a GTX 1060 6GB card to a 1080 Ti FTW3 specifically to increase performance in DCS 2.5, and my frame rate still sits at around 22 FPS (even when I change settings) when I'm 'Ready on the Ramp' in the Persian Gulf map.
The 1080 Ti is giving me fantastic frame rates in all of my other games, so I assume this is a DCS problem.
Any help appreciated. :helpsmilie:
Much better video card = same frame rate...

I don't want to resurrect this old thread, but I want to pass on that the helpful folks here were right:
I upgraded to an i7-8700K, and my DCS frame rate has easily more than doubled.
That definitely confirms that I was greatly CPU-bound with my good 'ol 2600K... :(
