Thanks guys, I will give those a look! -
Can't settle yaw when auto hovering? Bizarre behavior

Thanks for the tips. I'm going to reattempt. -
Can't settle yaw when auto hovering? Bizarre behavior
kratz replied to kratz's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Nope, that's not it... I had it both on and off at different times, and the nose would point away from the aim point regardless... and it's only been really on this one mission, thought the kind of cumulative degeneration of the trim control has been a problem on other ones. -
What is the pricing scheme supposed to be for additional aircraft if you have already purchased BS?

Can't settle yaw when auto hovering? Bizarre behavior

Yeah, that's totally what I'm doing initially... get everything stable, trimmed, then engage it. The other problem I was having later was that I could NOT trim it... it had a ton of yaw regardless of where I trimmed it. -
Can't settle yaw when auto hovering? Bizarre behavior

So I come to a hover... engage auto hover... the helicopter will slew to the right... sometimes *violently*... it will often settle down, but not where I want it to be pointing. Is it just turning into the wind? I thought if I engaged the hover and hit the trim button, it would try to keep me pointed where I was previously pointed? I'm on the campaign mission 'Return to Teberda', and at the target location, the above happens. Also, when I try to stabilize for landing on this mission, I can't get the helicopter to stabilize at all... it's like every time I trim it's getting worse and worse, and in auto hover is doing some insane manuevers (big sweeping, banking turns). The end result of this was that I was auto hovering and auto descending to make a landing, and then things went goofy, then I lost all lift to ground effect (or whatever it's called w/ helicopters) and fell out of the sky. -

It does not display above 50kph... I've had +120, for example, displayed in the TV window, and nothing on the HUD. -

Okay, so... is my problem that the default startup procedure (LWIN + HOME) turns ON the FD? This seems that it may be the problem with the route following mode not working. Would turning it off fix both of my problems? And where is the switch? -

You know that, while it's not on the HUD, which I agree would be preferable, it IS displayed on the tv, right? Thanks for the info on getting the nav HUD back Federf and EtheralN - one more problem down! Still wondering about why auto hover doesn't work sometimes though, if anyone knows. -

Yes, I do. That brings up another question... after I activate my weapons systems, I get a different HUD that does NOT have the speed indicator in the top left... how do I get the default one back? -
In missions that start with the helicopter shut down, I am never able to engage auto hover. I start everything up with LWIN + HOME. Take off... gear up, etc. I come to a hover, as I normally would, hit LALT + T... and it doesn't engage the auto hover. Obviously I need to be engaging a few extra steps, but I'm not sure what they are. I actually shut off whatever it is on accident on another mission where I started w/ the helicopter turned on, and had successfully used auto hover several times... then, and I'm not sure how, I accidentally turned off whatever it is that lets me us auto hover, and I couldn't use it anymore (no light on the panel when I engage). I was not in route following mode in any of these. Okay, related question... when I fire everything up manually, as described above, and there is a route on the ABRIS, it sets my 'waypoint' as wherever I was pointed when I last released the Trim button, and hitting 'R' doesn't take me on the route displayed on the ABRIS. I assume I am once again missing steps to do this. Thanks for any help!

Yeah, I was definitely a bit peeved at the puny fighter CAP they sent along. By the time the Mi-24s showed up, the SUs seemed to have buggered off themselves.
-
Okay, I completed that mission, and using your advice, I shot down one Mi-24V and my wingmen did for the other one. Quite pleased! Thanks!
-
Okay... HMS is my helmet mounted system... I can try this. Thanks again.
-
Hrm... I must still be missing something... I don't think I quite understand the targeting systems, maybe. I did the 'Battle' mission, and there were airborne targets that I tried to engage... I was in A/A mode, I would find them with the Shkval, and try to lock them with 'ENTER' when the box was over them, and it didn't do anything... Looking through this stuff, it seems that maybe there is a way to get things to be automatically targeted based on movement or something? And HMS = ?
-
Oh, I didn't realize I could lock air targets w/ my missiles. Thanks guys... I will try some of these things! I was just messing about with the shooting range... it seems that in gunsight mode, the cannon is not affected by the helmet sight at all... is that right? There is no mode for the cannon where you exclusively control it with head movement?
-
I'm on the mission 'On the Other Side', where you fly over the mountains, attack a base in coordination with some attack aircraft, and then a pair of Mi-24Vs show up and proceed to kick my flight's ass... I imagine the 'correct' thing to do in this situation is to engage them with the cannon, but I can't even get the cannon to *fire* in this situation... in fact, I have cannon issues in general. I get the concept, that I should use the helmet mounted sight to aim the cannon within the bounds of it's movement, and engage targets, but it seems that the last thing I had locked in the Shkval contains the area in which I can shoot, maybe? I tried hitting 'P', which I thought would release the cannon to me, but no dice... I hit the A/A button on the targeting control, but I don't know how to target an aircraft. A step by step would be a terrific help.

Is there a similar route follow mode that follows the ABRIS flight plan?
-
Man, I am dumb. I didn't realize what was going on there. Just successfully completed the mission. Thanks!
-
I guess I missed that part... he shows up mid mission or something?
-
Maybe I am missing something that I need to be doing with the ABRIS... I don't fully understand how the waypoints work and whatnot, but... I take off. I hit 'R' to engage route following mode. The helicopter follows the flight plan displayed on the ABRIS. I land. I get no 'mission success' message. I hang out for a while with time accelerated to see if the guy on the radio tells me I've completed it... nothing. I finally hit ESC and 'Quit'. And my only option is 'Fly Again'. What do I need to be doing to complete this mission and move on to the next one? I'm quite frustrated after doing this mission repeatedly.
