I use a CH fighter stick, Pro throttle, pedals and TrackIR. I have my mouse just to the the left of my throttle so that I can keep my right hand on the stick whilst clicking buttons in the pit. I'm left handed but it didn't take that long to learn to fly right handed - afterall fine control on the collective is just as important ;). TrackIR is more important than an expensive HOTAS with rudder pedals IMO.

If you are in auto hover mode and you descend below 4m your autopilots will disengage automatically without warning. When you say that the auto pilot button light, stays on after you have turned it off are you sure it's not the altitude hold light that you are seeing? When you engage autohover, your altitude hold autopilot will also engage, but it does not disengage when you disengage autohover. Both behavious are just as in the real Ka50 apparently. Well done on completing the mission with your hydraulics out, however, there is an emergency gear release which would have saved you landing on your belly. Think of the workload of your poor ground crew :)
