My turn...
Thanks to ClearDark for HawgTouch, Talisman (inspiration) and everyone from VAAF, my pit is coming along nicely. I simply take the stick off and slide the whole console under the desk when I use the PC for things other than flying...
Woohooo - another Ikea pit. Love it. Well done!

yep, every button and swith works.
I made them all using bu0836 boards for simplicity. I have around 150 buttons and switches. they are not exactly like the real panels for the KA-50 and i regrouped some of them in different places so that they would be easier to reach the MFDs arent exactly found on the real thing, i just figued "If i was to redesign the inside of the helicopter, what would i use and where would i put it?"
My write up (below signiture) goes into detail on how everything was made.
Im on the mend now. but i still cant fly.
Its funny when other people come to fly it and spend a couple of minutes searching for buttons.

Thank you guys - all complements are appreciated.
Hi Talisman,Nice set up - how did you cover your monitor (instrument panel) as i would like to do the same thing... looks really good! What did you make your cover from (I was going to use, very thin sheet of wood - With perspex on the back to fit the actual screen size... then cover with aluminium sheet) Cut the holes in line with displays like you have..
Thanks
sorry been really unwell lately.
The screen in covered with that really thin 3 or 4mm fiberboard thats smooth on the front and textured on the back. the stuff you find on the back of flat pack wardrobes.
I covered the whole thing in blackboard paint. (roller not brish) and then cut the heads off of a load of screws and stuck them to the board.
The perspex is a good idea but might be a little over engineered. I simply used 1cm wide off cuts to line the panel with the inside of the bezel. then added a couple more where the MFDs sit so i dont get too giddy and accidently punch a hole in my disply. I didnt bother with the ally sheet, it wasnt an issue after the Black board paint set, it goes a great matt black and as it ages i swear it looks more and more like metal.

Alembic has a way of making any amp sound great! They craft the finest instruments in the world IMHO.
I thought i recognised it. By far the most expensive thing in the room :D
and agreed!

You do? Well, I'd like to see that sometime ole boy. Drop on by the office sometime huh?
'T':pilotfly:
I shall indeed - no doubt. I should be flying lots more in the next week or so. Then ill probably need re-training from the start :P
Dont expect me to be any goot it though, more likely to get caught up in the rigging.

sod the sim,
OMG look at that bass and the Peavy Amp! I bet that sounds awesome.

Quick question. I have a similar chair with casters and a hardwood floor. How do you deal with rudder scoot? as i call it. You know when you press a rudder pedal and it stays put as you slide backwards across the floor?
I have my own solution but looking for better ideas :)

try changing the trim method in the options page.

Cowboy - good to know your still kicking :)
again +1 for Bob at RC sims. a nice guy and genuine as well.

I have a BS pit - kind of limits me to just that.

OOOOh i know the answer to this on - its a necro thread but ill dig it up again.
SVmapper only sees the version numbers on the BU0836 cards and does not always read the names of the cards. If you have 2 or more cards with generic names - it cannot define between the two and you will have a list in SVMapper which has 64 outputs in it. This is also the case with the simple BU0836 cards which are not supported in Vista.
Even worse is that it does not determine which card is which - so if you unplug them and put them back in the wrong order - all the numbers re reversed.
To get round this problem i use a program called Xpadder. This recognises each individual board and doesnt get the orders mixed up - plus it waaaaay better than SVmapper. Is does cost a few dollars (about 10) but its deffo worth it. it saved the day for me!

take a look at my pit - its probably gonna give you some ideas.

A tip would be to use some finishing paper on the top of the acrilic - 1 it spreads the light more evenly and it will also make it easier to adhere labels to it.
Use thick photopaper and when you print do it twice. Cut both and stick them on top of eachother. makes it hard wearing and also reduces the light output throught the black. the white makes little difference and shows through clearly.

lol and watch your tail as it overtakes you, outrunning Manpads while making gentle turns = letter to your wife. :(

i have a nice simple solution to this - i use xpadder for toggles on leos bu0836 boards.
cover open has a key stroke - so does cover closed. so........ make a macro.
when i hit a toggle to on xpadder sends the keystroke to open the cover - pause - then flip the toggle - pause then close the cover.
when i flip it down same happens - cover open -pause - flip switch - pause - cover closed.
easy.
makes some great noises as well - hit a toggle and the sim goes thunk - thunk - thunk.

Simming at our level is like fishing.
10% of the population do it for hours and get a huge amount of satisfaction from it.
the other 90% wonder why :)

check your device manager - look in the properties tab under the power settings. Check that the power settings are set to prevent the device from being powered off automatically.
Device manager - USB controllers - USB Root hub - Peoperties - Power Management Tab - uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device"

I just built the overlay - pictures are in my thread below.

The original version of The Battle Engine for Government use (which DCS is part of) Uses a fully simulated FAC with binos and assorted laser gadgets. This could be a bit residual code for that.

To Blaster454:
Thank you so much. You're explanations are indeed helpful. However, you lost me at: "You probably won't have to worry about reassigning these axes. When in the sim, move the mouse (with the cursor function LALT + C in a position to show the cursor) and you will see the corresponding changes in your view in the aircraft." Please elaborate? I don't understand what you mean. Too much info - dont worry about the mouse - i have been flying simulators for 10 years and have never - ever configured a mouse axis.
Also, whenever someone is referring to the word "sim", I take it to mean they are referring to the Combat Flight Simulator itself or any Simulator for that matter. Am I correct? The sim to which you refer - is the one we all mean. Lockon wasnt it?
What are the modifier keys? Am I correct identifying them as: Ctrl, Shift, Alt, Win, Fn, Home, End, Page Up, Page Down, etc.? Yes!
Note to all: I can only spend an hour or so at a time learning this simulator program. So, if I seem to break away then I'll be back time permitting another time soon. Thank you for your efforts to answer my questions. Good day to all.
Ok your probably not going to like this - but. If your having difficulty with keys - you really are going to have a hard time figuring out whats what on a notebook. All key guides on the interwebs will assume that you have a normal keyboard.
I would go to ebuyer or a cheap computer store and buy the cheapest - crappiest - full size keyboard and mouse you can. Its does not need to look pretty - just have all the relivent buttons. That will make life much easier. Sims are not made for notebook keyboards.
Dont worry about asking questions - your breaking into the most complicated of all computer games - the simulation. Its difficult but sooooooooo rewarding (just ask anyone) Dont give up. Everyone started like you did.
PS welcome to the community
IIRC = If i remember correctly - or - If it really counts.

I have a set of these and they rock! I mean bloody rock! Tip - dont bother using the software for them - just program them using DCS - much easier. Unless of course you want to use them with multiple aircraft then
- well -
ignore me :P

OK let me get this right - you want the the sckval and the abris on one monitor yes?
if so use my profile -
_ = function(p) return p; end;
name = _('Shkval+Camera');
Description = 'Shkval on the left monitor, camera on the right';
Viewports =
{
Center =
{
x = 0;
y = 0;
width = 3072;
height = 768;
viewDx = 0;
viewDy = 0;
aspect = screen.aspect;
}
}
ABRIS =
{
x = 2759;
y = 300;
width =313;
height =468;
}
Shkval =
{
x = 0;
y = 468;
width = 500;
height = 300;
}
------
My monitor is a triple head to go - but its still just one monitor to the game. My resolution is set to 3072 by 768 you will need to change it to match. sckval on the left and abris on the right - all in just one monitor.
The sckval and the abris are drawn from their top left corners - so make sure your width and height fall within your screen size or weird things happen.
good luck.

Time to dig up a thread.
I have been reading about the Vertical Landing in the manual. But somehow I'm unable to understand the difference between the Vertical Landing using the Rotor in Ground effect and without using the Rotor in Ground effect.
I don't really understand what the difference is between the two? Without the RiG effect you hover at 5 meters instead of 3? But as soon as you start descending the RiG effect will occur right?
The difference is the amount of power needed by the engines while you are slowing. In RiG effect - 20% less power is required to maintain the hover before you touch down - this is generally safer. If you need to lift again - 20% extra power is priceless.
If not coming into Ground Effect - you will need almost maximum power to maintain your positioning hover - if everything goes to hell, you wont generally have much power to lift smoothly if at all.
Thats the difference - 20% extra power (and less torque). You should always opt for a Ground Effect pad landing of you can. Best of all though is a rolling landing.
Land before you apply the brake - the chpper is high and heavy - on a rigid (brakes on) undercarrage the aircraft will tip. With brakes off the undercarrage can move and tipping is less likely.
My routine is:
Get her down
Reset trim
brakes on
throttles back. (engine throttles not collective)
then i let go of the controls.
