Oh it seems that even though I have selected Real Mode controls, my joystick is using joystick assignments from game mode controls.

So from watching the video, the answer to my question appears to be yes. In the video he doesn't mention what key he is hitting, and I have already scrolled through the real mode controls list a couple of times and don't see anything that sounds like Select Enemy Center of Screen or Closest, etc.

I am using easy avionics, hard flight, and real controls. I have the default joystick controls, where one button cycles through ground targets. I find myself cycling through a dozen friendlies before I get to an enemy, and sometimes I am hitting it so frantically I wiz right past the enemy and have to hit the button a bunch more to get back to another enemy that is nearby. Is there a way to limit the targetting to enemies? Is there a button to target nearest enemy?

lol, is this a joke, or are you serious?

In the first night mission I am told "Don't forget your goggles" but there is no key in the real mode list that mentions night vision or goggles. The only key anywhere close is the cockpit lights for night.
