  1. Armchair experts. Until you build a computer like this and witness the results firsthand, even with crappy beta drivers, then all your knowledge is based on are OEM reviews. Since money isn't really a problem to me, building this wasn't a problem. So it was money well spent. It was either that or charity... ha. Yes, such and such's review says that 2 6970 in crossfire will beat a 6990 by 1 fps, and be a tenner cheaper. But this is 2 6990, and I have never seen smoother gameplay. Ever. Nvidias yet to be released card may beat it, but the margin it might or might not beat it by will be miniscule. These cards are out, and nvidias arent. Did I mention that the performance is amazing?.

Conclusion: If you have the cash, go for it. If you don't have the cash, whinge at the people who do.

    Duke out.

  2. Man, but 2 separate cards are so much better. take the time for the research. :)

I disagree. While nvidia runs certain games better, ATI seems to lead the field at the minute. AMD used to have the best processors, nothing touched the good old FX-55 in its day :P But now Intel dominate with their cpus and AMD are moving on in leaps and bounds the graphics market. Fair enough, sli and crossfire scaling arent that great, but with all the new technology that is being churned out at the minute, and once nvidia and ati get drivers optimized for better scaling, time will tell.

I got this computer set up today, but damnably, windows refused to install with the gigabyte motherboard. So I'm sticking with my trusty rampage while the assassin gets RMA'ed. So far the setup is looking good and the cards produce no more noise than a single 5970, which is good. Temperatures are understandably a bit higher now, but nothing that a well ventilated case can't deal with. Dragon Age II maxed out runs flawlessly, fps through the roof, no stuttering, artifacts or noticeable loading occuring. Thats the only real challenge this setup has had so far though, I'll get Warthog installed later and give this beast a real run-in.

  3. Two, you order another power supply too?

Koolance will have Waterblocks out in <2 weeks for the 6990. Judging by the distance between GPU's, the WC block will be almost as huge as the card and weigh a ton. I may someday drop some coin for one, but I just got my 6970's and WC blocks for them, so I'll most likely wait a bit.

Let us know how they run with A-10.

EDIT: What's wrong with your Asus R3E MB?

I have a corsair 1200watt psu, I'm confident it will do fine :). Theres nothing wrong with the asus rampage or the 5970 I have, they will probably be kept as spares or sold. I'm just fortunate in that I have a bit of cash to play around with, and after checking out the 6990's benchmarks I am shall we say... impressed.

  4. I would love to have the F-15E Streike Eagle. It is just a GREAT strike aircraft and can also do a Air to Air. And it is a real beauty

And of course if multicrewed, the better ;)

I couldn't agree more. possibly the best looking fighter ever, massive payload and multirole. PLEASE EAGLE DYNAMICS, make the next sim for this plane! Co-op F15 and A10 missions, oh yes.

  5. TGP and slave to spi is indeed the way to go. Personally, after finding the target, I make it SPI with TGP, turn out to about 12 miles then run in with the nose directly lined up with the target. Hit autopilot, throttle back to 60-70%, switch mfcd to mav and slew to 3 or 4 and job is a good one. If you dont have to worry about enemy planes or the likes of the dreaded Osas, then gaining lots of altitude and using path hold with 5 to 10 degrees nose down and airbrakes out will keep the mav crosshair fairly steady. Using the height and path hold method you can easily fire most or all your mavs before you get within 4 miles of the target area, with possibly enough time get the tgp on another target for an LGB or JDAM. Thats a lot of pain coming down in one pass :D:joystick:

  6. the main problem i have is with enemy fighters... but i did have a rather amusing flight a few nights ago, on the first mission in the second campaign. i hit the bridge as intended, then made the descision to attrite the enemy artillery near that position after taking care of some of the air defences. this accomplished, i made a turn over the sea, gained some height and headed back to base. no sooner had i done this, then rwr starts warning of a mig behind me with lock, so i engaged ecm and started to dump chaff and lose height. i realised he was closer than i thought so started madly dropping flares. after 30 seconds or so the missile warning went off and the aircraft yawed violently, fire in left engine, and a glance back showed that half the tail was missing. i extinguished the fire and tried to restart the engine, but it was dead. bizzarely enough, the mig seemed to have disappeared, so i make a very very sketchy landing and quit to check what hit me, expecting it to be the ir missiles from the mig. turns out an f-18 had fired a sparrow at the mig, which missed and hit me xD. this game surprises me every time, i love it.

  7. Use the pod :)

You're experiencing fairly realistic effects there.

agreed, Litening is a great way of keeping track of ground target location regardless of which payload you intend to drop

  8. I just cant wait til they fix the damn recoil bug... But for me, trying to drop mk82s right on a tank turret is fantastic :) I've spent hours on this, the amount of mk82's the a10c can carry is ridiculous.

  9. I love my HOTAS warthog :) I'm loving the real pressures on the trigger and hack button, it means that no silly mistakes are made when you are running in to target under fire. You have to mash the buggers to fire weapons :P My only gripes are the wee mouse stick, it is WAY too sensitve, and TARGET gui crashes when you try to launch it, and the throttles wobble a bit when they are separated. (As in there is a bit of side to side movement, bad construction)

edit: and my desk is too damn small for the throttle. It hangs off a bit, and whenever I power down I nearly end up with 4 kilos of steel on my crotch. Fun times :D

  10. Anyone finding it a bit sensitive? It's almost impossible to use the TGP with stock settings, however the TAD seems to be ok.

Haven't run any kind of calibration yet, just plugged it in... Might also try knocking the THR slew rate down in the status page.

yeah i tried using it as pipper slew and the slightest touch sent the pipper flying all over the place, so i unmapped the default mic hat and used that for slew instead.

  11. My HOTAS Warthog arrived today, right on shedule. Couldn't resist showing it off, so heres a few unboxing pics:

Sorry about the kitties, but they are camera whores after all :D

Had a few quick flights, this joystick is so responsive, the resistance on the stick is absolutely perfect and i couldnt find a deadzone or any kind of input flaw anywhere. I got this to replace my aging X52, so got some saitek pro flight rudder pedals as well. After 6 years of using twist rudder, its taking a bit of getting used to, but first impressions are that the HOTAS Warthog is a seriously amazing piece of kit. Now I'm just waiting for my trackir to turn up, and then some serious Warthog training will be happening :joystick:

  12. Ok I have a small problem here. I had none of the available means of payment, so basically i put some money in a mates account who has a mastercard to get me and him a copy. So he purchased 2 copies and sent me a key, but how do I register my key to get access to beta forums? Also, how do updates for the beta work?
