I had the exact same problem when I tried to switch from stable to open beta to check the new 2.5.6...I think I tried all troubleshooting...but no luck. Even the log had no special info, it was just ending with the main menu opening. I just went back to stable thinking it was a problem coming from the switch from a version to the other.
