There are two original DCS carriers in Guam. One is in a fleet cruising to the southeast of Anderson, and one is docked at Naval Base Guam which is at Old Orote (typo'd "Olf" Orote on the DCS Map - which needs to be corrected). I have successfully trapped the F-18 Hornet on both of those carriers with the pulled wires showing. The docked carrier is the USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70). I don't remember what the marking was on the East Side carrier. I will probably set up a Supercarrier for free flight somewhere near Anderson because carrier landings are my music (fun thing). The Supercarrier is incredibly immersive, and the new Marianas Map is simply gorgeous! Well done DCS! (though I have much yet to explore).
Side note ... I also run the new MSFS 2020, which is pretty awesome for scenery. Your home town looks like your home town ... really, and remarkably, includes the whole world, a diverse set of excellent Commercial and General Aviation aircrafts but no "live" carriers (yet?).
The older Microsoft FSX is where I got the Navy Pilot Bug ... I don't run FSX anymore, but I credit my Navy flyer bug to the stock FSX Hornet and a now well known designer (initials DC) who provided fantastic FSX models of the F-35 A,B,&C, F-14, and T-45 Goshawk, among others ... Thank You "D". There are many other trappable aircrafts free to download for FSX, and I would try anything with a hook! in FSX, I could place a carrier literally anywhere there is water ... even inland lakes! Imagine flying an F-14 through the Grand Canyon and up over Hoover Dam and trapping on a carrier in Lake Mead ... it's just fun ... it's a game ... right? I'm 79, and not practicing to go to war (BTDT).
I love both these systems. Anyone else have both? I'll guess ... yes.
As far as DCS vs. MSFS 2020, they really don't compete ... Yet. Both have great scenery and aircrafts, but MSFS is biased toward sightseeing. DCS, while catering to a different and finite class of simmers, has limited, but comparable scenery for sightseeing (think Las Vegas), but wins hands down in the execution department, as MSFS stumbles clumsily and annoyingly with updates. DCS updates are fast and dependable, and the program is always stable, and seems less hardware hungry (and of course you can blow stuff up).
As DCS adds more and more of the world, they move closer to siphoning off MSFS users, and if DCS were to add some Commercial and GA planes to the hanger, I believe it would cut seriously into MSFS' market share. I would like to see DCS offer some C and GA, with ATC support. At the same time I would hope Microsoft gets their s*** together, as well as adding live carrier support. I would still use both systems.
Sorry for the length ... I don't even know how I fell down that rabbit hole. Right now I'm gonna' dwell the beautiful DCS Marianas Map! ... Cheers!
