MacFevre Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Thank you! I realize you didn't have to do that, but I appreciate that you did. Hopefully this will last me until I can afford a Warthog! :) BTW, you mention ton the listing that the ome grease was the cause of a lot of the problems. You know of something better? Thanks again Buttons aren't toys! :smilewink: My new Version 2 Pit: MacFevre A-10C SimPit V2 My first pit thread: A-10C Simulator Pit "The TARDIS." lunaticfringe Posted February 12, 2014 Author Posted February 12, 2014 Re: lubricants. I actually can't, sadly, as it's been so long since Frugals went down that I cannot recall what was recommended, and frankly, it was never of import because mine was upgrade with an FSSB. But I recall in many of the threads about IJs and Evenstrain's modifications that the factory grease was indeed a concern, because of the nature of the pot metal sliding surfaces being the same material on both sides, with the grease in effect acting as a slurry that caused rapid degredation. This is why some of the gimbal-based mods would mount reinforcements out of steel, and then press fit bearings around the post center made out of brass, to eliminate the dualistic-metal damage. Would either side ever wear out, they could be replaced (although the hardnesses were infinitely higher than the factory hardware, so you'd go decades before this ever became an issue). I'd suggest giving a look on SimHQ, since a lot of the discussions cross-polinated there from that timeframe, or possibly finding one of the aforementioned modders email and dropping them a line. Also note that one of the suggestions to get rid of play and give a reduction in wear was the use of automotive feeler gauge tabs as spacers. And if you're looking for pedals for that Cougar, I'm debating putting up a slightly modified RCS... ;)
