tacca Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 hey guys, amazing forum, ive already learnt so much since getting this last week.. I've been trying to complete the serpents head mission the last 2 nights and I keep getting smacked by Manpads after/while dropping the gbu38. Ive tried a couple different tactics - 200ft agl and fast - still got hit turning over the city. 2000ft agl - sitting duck launched 2 maveriks (at the troops) in the same run as the gbu (decent work load at 400ft agl 290knts for a newb) and still some survived and got me. does anyone have any suggestions other than targeting and then running back down valley, climbing above clouds and dropping from above the cloud cover. I know it works but its sort of cheating, i imagine the mission was design around nape of the earth flying. I really dont know much about Counter measures (which i lloked up tonight) it seems i should be running a flare program on my in run and then a more intense one just after i release and try to escape. Drunken_Skull Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 (edited) Here is a thread I found on MANPAD; http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=72813 I think your on the right track with the CM programs. Not sure Id call it cheating to go high altitude though, It seems to be the done thing as far as how the AI likes to attack with it's GBU's. EDIT; NOE flight is usually performed by aircraft with either the ability to stop dead (attack helicopters, etc ) or go really really fast (f111, b1b, etc) using sophisticated terrain following radar. Because of the relative slow speed of the a10 and the lack of VTOL, your most likely going to get shot dead by a farmer with an antique rifle (like Lieutenant Morgan "Morg" McPhearson did in "Flight of the Intruder").
