Silver is reserved for the allies. Its in the bylaws, Volume 3301, section 12, chapter 2 paragraph 4, subsection 10:

"THOU SHALT NOT, produce in a game a piston engine aircraft of German make without paint or camouflage of some variety. Silver is for the allies only, specifically the Americans, in order to enhance their OP."

I have a book, but most sources say it isnt overly accurate, but it was in the discount bin at my local books store so I got it and the Allies one...

I cant even say the images I posted are accurate... I just know that during WWII, the Germans has some nice paint jobs... so hell no I dont want a silver 109 :)

If you want accurate paint schemes for K4, best book available is JaPo's "Messerschmitt Bf 109 K - Camouflage & Markings". Other pretty good one is Wolowski's "Bf 109 Late versions camouflage & Markings". Almost all older books are pretty horrible with paintjobs...like your first image shows :music_whistling:

Of course K4 (or any 109) looks best with painted, germas really had best looking camouflages but silver would be nice "fun skin" anyways in my opinion.

waoh, 250$ for a used version...not exactly the cheapest book :)

Yeah, unfortunately they are quite pricey today. I'm glad i bought mine before they were sold out :) However Wolowski's books are cheap at ebay at the moment.

Actually japanese were first to use silver planes (and Kawasakis looks great in silver), tought most of the received some kind of camo in units. So it's definitely NOT for allies only :chair: :megalol:

IIRC some 109's were bare metal in an attempt to catch the mossie :)

Cheaper. Lighter. Faster.

Not just a little, either. I seem to recall that the paint to cover a Mustang-sized fighter amounts to some 200-300 pounds.

I doubt the paint would go on as smooth as the metal itself, so it would also add drag from the surface roughness... though filling in panel joints may reduce more drag than the surface texture adds.

*edit: ok, it was over 300 pounds for a B-17, so probably closer to 100 for a Mustang. Also found info that the top speed of the Mustang increased by 21 mph when they stripped the paint off and applied a wax coat instead

I think 30-50 pounds would be closer on average sized ww2 fighter. Largest plane i've painted is DC-2 and IIRC paint amount used was about 50 litres. That would equal close to ~50 kg's = 110 pounds. And that includes two kind of primers and two coat of paint.

Modern paint, or 1940s-era? From what I've read, the older paints were significantly metal-bearing, and weighed a LOT.

That's of course possible. We used modern paints.

Hi Sith,

not only for you but me too!

As most of the K-4 were produced by Mtt Rgb (or better Neutraubling) i dont like a bare metal K-4.

The upper scheme is a Bf 109G-10 (you can recognize the loop antenna behind the canopy, the K-4 had the antenna a "block" further away) not a K-4. It was flown FW. Horst Petzschler 10/JG 51 who flew this G-10 to Sweden in May 1945. Its a well documented aircraft.

There are some more differences but most of you know it, so i dont want to list them.

Call me old fashion, but my 109 needs paint...

The last development update was on April 25th, nearly a month ago now. Is there any info about the status of the project? Has something gone wrong that has delayed or stopped development efforts such that there are no updates?

Let's get back to the OP's questions...

We should get a weekly update.

Taking in account Ilya nobody espects a weekly update.

But about 6 weeks of radio silence is ridicilous.

I remember an application for a PR person or something like that. Where is she or him to inform us?

A monthly update is even to much asked.

Looks like the project is dead.

If not. Show us some new WIP screenies or vids.

To impress us.

At least somebody could have told us : there are no updates because this and that .

Champion of the people Sithspawn might be able to direct our concerns to something resembling the proper channels but I don't think we'll ever get a direct response out of Ilya.

6 weeks of radio silence is very suspicious.

I am generally loathe to moan about a lack of updates, but I have to agree. I'm a backer, and one of the reasons I did so was for the promised unparalleled access to development we were supposed to get. This silence is deafening.

It shouldn't be too hard to throw up a couple of screenshots or at least take 15 minutes to type up a progress report. I know things are chaotic in some of the regions over there but 6 weeks is a long time. They were thinking Dora Alpha in early 14 and we've heard nothing on it. Someone else is releasing a module in July(F86) and still no time table on the Fw190.

The 190 is being developed by ED, not RRG, while RRG is helping with some aspects, they have no say on the timeline. There wasnt going to be an Alpha on the Dora, we dont know if ED will do any sort of Beta, they havent said.
