Operation Caviar

Summer 1996. The Great Patriotic War has entered its 56th year and the Western Allies are threatening to overrun the Crimea . American and German forces are established along a front stretching from Schebetovka in the south-east to Krasnoperekopsk in the north-west.

Our valiant 12th Armoured Brigade, spearheaded by the heroic tank crews of the 153rd Armoured Division, has launched a massive offensive against the bourgeois forces of the US/German CXVIII Corps.

You are to lead a flight of Russian Federation Air Force (VVS) Su-27 fighters from the 1054th Fighter Aviation Regiment flying from Kerch-Bagerovo Air Base. Your main task will be to provide air cover for our CAS missions over the battlefield.

Mission 1 Escort

Day 1, 09:30 Hrs. You and the rest of your flight are ready to start engines and depart on your first mission. Follow the pre-programmed route and then make full use of the AWACS data link to deal with the enemy aircraft that have been attacking our Su-17s and helicopters over the battlefield.

It has been over 12 hours since the 12th Armoured Brigade engaged the enemy and we still haven’t gained air superiority. German Air Force Tornadoes of Jagdbombergeschwader 311 “Neukölln” have been attacking our armour with impunity and the offensive is losing its momentum.

You must ensure that no enemy aircraft penetrate north of Leninskoe.

Our Early Warning Radar at Marfovka has detected three groups of bandits crossing the coast at Sudak heading towards the Evpatorija sector. You must intercept and destroy these enemy aircraft.

Be advised, the German Air Force elite all-female Jagdgeschwader 174 “Kreuzberg", lead by the renowned fighter ace Oberstleutnant Élise von Krieg (353 kills) and her wingman Oberleutnant Anke Volltreffer has been patrolling over the Bay of Kalamita .

Two hours ago a signal from US Military Intelligence at Oxymoronlovovka was intercepted indicating that the 7th Allied Tactical Air Force had deployed to its Forward Operating Location at Belbek Air Base. So the AWACS aircraft should soon have lots of trade for you.

You are to ensure that the Su-25Ts are able to complete their task without being intercepted by enemy fighters. Mission 8 BARCAP at Belogorsk

On the ground, the CXVIII Corps is in full retreat and only the 41st Panzergrenadierdivision (Pankow) and a few American units stand between us and the town of Simferopol .

Our Early Warning Radar at Marfovka has detected several groups of enemy aircraft heading your way. It is vital that they are destroyed before they can interfere with our advance. MiG-29Ss of the 120 th Guards Regiment have already been scrambled to intercept them. Don’t leave the BARCAP until the bandits are within 120 Km of your current location.
