NEODARK Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 First of all, I'd like to say I never had issues with starforce... That is until the release of patch 1.12a (you can find the thread under the bugs section) IT basically did not allow many of us to play our game. Thanks to a copuple of guys that suggested I contact starforce directly, my problem was sorted out in a quick manner, and I'm back up in the sky. I really do not like starforce, rather I tolerate it because LockOn has it, and I love the game. But what kind of bussines practice is this? They resort to post a link to an illegal download of a non-starforce protected game to make a point? How silly. Much maligned anti-piracy software developer Starforce has sunk to a shocking new low in making a case for using its product. In a posting on its company messageboards an admin (who may or may not be directly employed by the company) included in a post the link to an active torrent file trading link for the recently released Galactic Civilizations 2. The link has subsequently been removed, but the text of the post remains. The poster states "Right now several thousands of people are downloading the pirated version only from that web-site. Is it good for the sales? Unlikely." News Article: http://www.gametab.com/news/507478/ Developer's response: http://forums.galciv2.com/index.aspx?forumid=161&aid=106741&c=1 Just FYI...
Shaman Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 GC II Galactic Civilizations 2 devs don't worry about those downloads. It is just the way they've chosen to treat their end-users(customers). You don't need CDKEY to run their game. You need to register with it for updates. I really like its review on gamespot, I'll quote it here: From installation to end game, it is clear that this is not only one of the best turn-based strategy games to grace a PC, but one in which the player is treated like royalty. The first sign of this is during installation. There is no copy protection and no need to have the CD in the tray to play, and you don't even have to enter the serial number during the install (a blessing to those of us who want to reinstall a game in the future or install it on a notebook but can't ever seem to track down the serial number). This is quite convenient. The serial number is your key to updates and add-ons, which have traditionally, for Stardock, been plentiful, substantive, and responsive to customer feedback and requests (in fact, the first update is already available). The game scored 9.0 on Gamespot. For a classic-like game like this its a lot. 51PVO Founding member (DEC2007-) 100KIAP Founding member (DEC2018-) :: Shaman aka [100☭] Shamansky tail# 44 or 444 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 100KIAP Regiment Early Warning & Control officer

Alfa Posted March 13, 2006 Posted March 13, 2006 Neodark, If you want an answer to that question I suggest you contact StarForce and ask them instead of attempting a poorly disquised starforce rant on this forum.
