tomcatter Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 On the last summer, and thanks to the Freedom of Information Act, the CIA released a very interesting document done 20 years ago. The document was a deep historical explanation of two secret programs that the CIA and the Air Force run for two decades: The U-2 and OXCART programs. The document, The Central Intelligence Agency and Overhead Reconnaissance: The U-2 and OXCART Programs, 1954-1974, is a very interesting read about how this programs were made operational and it has a lot of information about the flights that were carried over the Soviet Union, including the one that did´t reach home. It is a long read, but is worth the time because the info that contains, a lot covering how the operations at Groom Lake AFB were made, the flight paths of the planes, the United Kingdom collaboration, and a lot over the geopolitical situation of the time, like operation Fish Hawk were the U-2 was operated from a carrier to film the French nuclear tests on the Pacific. The link is to a National Security Archive that has an explanation about the document, and the document itself is linked at the end of the page. Hope you enjoy it. http://www2.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB434/ 1
